Case 4230 4WD

I’m having trouble with the 4WD drive operation on 1995 case 4230. Can anyone tell me the correct way it actually supposed to operate. Sounds like a silly question, just it’ll save me barking up the wrong tree.
thanks

With the switch off for 2wd, there should be battery voltage at the solenoid. With the switch on for 4wd, there should be zero volts at the solenoid.
Hence the solenoid needs power to keep it in 2wd. It defaults to 4wd when the engine is stopped or the key is turned off.

I’m fairly certain on the 4230 we used to have the 4wd used to cut in with the brakes being pressed. But I know of quite a few tractors around that time being fitted with another switch on the dash to turn it off for tight yard work.

4200 series were as close to 40k as the maxxums.

The 30k 5130s definitely didn't have 4 wheel braking, many were converted to 40k with only the 40k gear set used & not the full kit.

I will hold my hands up though & say I could be wrong on 4200 series as we sold very few of them 👐

Yes, my 4230 goes into 4WD if you press the brakes.
I wouldn’t be in a rush to change the solenoid - they cost a fortune.
It will probably be a fault in the wiring. I had to replace the wire down to the solenoid on mine.
