Liability grazing sheep

So my neighbour has 12 acres and mows it!! He was originally keen on letting my sheep graze but then read that he would be liable if one escaped and caused problems.
Surely nowhere would get grazed if there wasn't a way around this... What insurance schemes/companies do people use???
His grass looks amazing atm 🤤

Most people granting a lease for grazing would insert a clause in that agreement that the owner of the stock has examined the fencing and found it suitable for his purpose. But I think the law assumes the "keeper" of the stock is the person who provides food and water.

Personally, I would want my own insurance (as landowner) but also require the grazer to indemnify me against third party claims. Even then, I'd want my solicitor to check the agreement over so I'd have someone to sue if things went pear shaped! Yes, I wear belt and braces, but not everyone bothers and some will rely on a hand shake.

He doesn't make hay...just cuts it regularly on his quad. I think he appreciates it will be good for the land.
It does look a grey area. Perhaps my insurance would satisfy him....especially if I do the fencing. Any recommendations on insurance companies?

I know this thread is a year old - but did you get anywhere with this?

We only have 30 sheep - and rent land, year round from a smallholding on a grazing license. The landlord lives at the smallholding and has insurance that covers our livestock and horses that graze on the land.

We now have the opportunity to graze another field on someone else's land - but it's a tiny field (1.5 acres) and would only be for 1-2 months.

This landowner's manager has asked if we have public liability insurance. While it seems like a good idea, given the fact that we only need it for a minimal number of sheep, and on a temporary basis, it is going to make any temporary grazing too expensive.

Has anyone found cheap insurance for this purpose, or can suggest a work around?

Speak to Lycetts insurance brokers. Google will give you the phone number for your local office.

Its a while back now but pretty sure only NFU would cover in my situation (using a neighbours field). However, they would only do it under a house/farm insurance policy. The fact I am mid house build means I cant get insured yet. So no joy from my side.
