I understand that the gas price is going crazy in most of europe and that's why fert is more expensive to make but what about egypt? Why has the price of their urea doubled or tripled this year?

If grain has jumped from £150 to £200, I'm going to sell at £200, as that's the market price.

The fact I'd produced it for £100/t is irrelevant. Unfortunately, sometimes works the other way as well.

Who knows, could work that way this next year. Expensive fert, expensive diesel and tractors, yield might be good across the world, but poor on my farm. Mighy cost me £150 to produce, but market price could be £130. Fert manufacturers might have similar problem. Don't suppose they'll be keen to produce and stockpile at current gas prices, particularly if gas prices crash in May.

I used to mow for a guy who was going to go organic, first year yields were nearly as good as with the fert, second not so good third was very poor, I'm sure for those on heavy land with good om levels a year of a few less kg wouldnt cause a huge drop in yield.

Set within a kind of island within our farm is a retired chap with about 10ha. He lets a small farmer mow it for hay. Nothing else happens to it, not grazed, no Inputs... I’ve been watching with some interest, now been here 8 years, the hay is the same and a fair crop every year, In fact (due to the early weather) this year it was the earliest and best crop ever😳
Well, it gets me thinking🤔

Other industries heavily reliant on gas are appealing for a government bail out.

Will this apply to agriculture too?

Better to sort the problem than paper over the cracks in my opinion.

What happens to all the north sea gas? Do we not produce enough to be self sufficient? Will Nicola be able to do a Putin and shut down the taps to limit supply going over the border in the future!?

Speaking to a haulier yesterday and his books are full with fert to shift. Cf shutting down definitely panicked farmers that were holding off into ordering. I haven't yet. But feeling peer pressure on here!
