COVID vax for kids

Vaccinating under 12's will probably get the go ahead in some countries before Christmas. A six year old won't be seen as able to decide for themselves, so what then?
Within the next 6 months or so, I think children will have to be jabbed to attend school here. The pressure from the teachers and government will be too great.

I simply don't understand this virus, my son tested positive 9 days ago , slight loss of taste but no other symptoms ,( I think the majority of the kids at his school have now) and yet none of the rest of the family have it , no face masks or antiviral gel here and like a typical 12 year old he hardly ever washes his hands I couldn't see any advantage for him in been vaccinated before this, even less so now.

It’s about the overall viral load within a population - a bit like worming animals to keep the egg count down.

Sounds like you understand it pretty well

My daughter has been doing everything in her power to catch it, everything government has told her not to do she has been doing, sharing everything she can think of with her brother but to no avail, there will be no 10 days off school for her.
She is testing herself? if not ...could have it without symptoms, my two youngest had no symptoms(thinking maybe they had it, maybe not)whilst myself, my wife and my eldest had it in sequence.

You have answered your own question. Tory government obsession with this is to protect their voter base - us old codgers / coffin dodgers. And to keep the NHS staff on side - that will require a substantial pay rise too.

Can any of us think back and put our selves in our offsprings shoes and thoughts. Yes difficult but how do you think you would feel after all that gone on with disruption to education and life in general, to be then forced or actively encouraged to have a vaccination that they may have seen elderly friends family have adverse reactions and even die from. How do a lot of them perceive our beaver befriending, loose loving, morally bankrupt leader. If they have the perception of lead by example, we'll he has set a different path to follow. I do not believe a lot of under 16 s are capable of understanding the true concerns, but children all mature in mind and body at different stages.

on the Thursday he tested positive (PCR) yet his wife two children and oh and myself all tested negative, the only symptom he had was a slight runny nose as well

Maybe something to do with vaccinations ?

Medical profession (MHRA and JCVI) and government have been very open about this.

There is no, or very marginal, medical benefit for doing the vaccine (although risk of vaccination is still lower than risks from Covid) so they wouldn't normally recommend it. But there is a educational benefit due to the extra disruption that Covid causes with isolation so the government/CMOs have decided to do it.

Precisely. Our 12 year-old is due to get the jab either tomorrow or Friday. We have given consent. The main benefit is that she is less likely to lose school time. Other important benefits are that she is less likely to transmit to her parents, her vulnerable grandparents, and her little sister who is due to do the transfer test in a month's time, and does not need to be pinged then. If we could get her vaccinated, we would, but she's currently below the threshold. 12 year-old also got the flu vaccine and the HPVC vaccines very recently, and no doubt MMR will come up at some point. I'm actually quite cross that she's not being offered the BCG in school anymore, given that TB is present in our herd back and forth, and on every cattle farm in our area in turn. I'm just about to jab all breeding females for BVD on the farm, and I don't intend to ask their consent. It won't do them much good, but it will prevent their offspring from becoming PI (persistently infected) calves which have to be shot by law. So these things are often more complicated than just the direct health benefit to the individual.

Not even a hint of worry that it may cause issues down the line? I just couldn't do it without longterm assessment but no doubt it's a simpler life just to trust it and get on.
