Just resurrecting this thread, with the price of fertiliser going through the roof, these foliar fertiliser products will be more comparible on price.I don't know anyone around me that has used them, so has anyone used them this year and how did you get on with them?
They may have a place but I’d imagine they will be comparatively expensive as solid N as they contain urea ??
From my experiences in certain situations they can deliver, but the results are very variable, I know of a farm this year that had a considerable yield disadvantage from using these products, I saw comparable yields from my on farm trials which was very encouraging but the grain protein on Gp3’s were 3% below standard N, this would have cost me £90/ha of premiums and the extra £15/ha to buy the foliar over AN last year…
Worth looking at, but not as reliable as standard N imho

We have done a lot of research on EfficieN28t and the timing of application is very important. In winter wheat a T2 application will boost yield whereas a T3 application will boost protein. In barley flag leaf is the best time to apply it which will increase yield without raising grain N. There is more information on https://soilandcrop.agriton.co.uk or drop me an email at [email protected] for more technical information / trials results.

Prices do not track the volatile N market but due to increases in the cost of raw materials there has been a price rise on last season. EfficieN28t is still a viable option compared to granular and has many more environmental advantages.

Have you done any trials with it on malting barley?

Scottish Agronomy did some trials with EfficieN28t in spring barley (KWS Laureate). They looked at untreated, farm standard (140 kg N/ha) and a range of programmes using EfficieN28t.

These programmes included - just using EfficieN28t, using 80 kg N at the start followed by three applications of EfficieN28t and replacing 40 kg N from granular with 7 kg N from EfficieN28t at either GS31 (stem extension) or GS39 (flag leaf).

What was found was that some granular is needed to build canopy but after that EfficieN28t can be used to replace all or some granular N with no significant difference to farm standard yield. Please see the image below

P.S grain nitrogen levels were well within range for malting and distilling.

I thought Laureate was a Syngenta spring barley, not a KWS.
