The more you tighten them up the more you get out of it as a rule of thumb but make it to much work and you soon get fed up.
we had lots of little fields so baring leaving all the gates open or putting half a dozen in each field we have to rotational graze,
they tend to stay in the same field for between a day and a week here depending on the size of field and the number of animals and how much pasture is there and how far I want to take it down, so not very precise at all.

The main thing is not to leave them in a paddock more than 4 days and not to graze it so low as to have the residuals below about 1500 kg DM/ha (coke can standing up?).

After grazing, grass puts all it’s energy into a new shoot. If you graze that off (day 5) then you delay regrowth, which means you won’t be growing more grass.

‘Grass grows grass’ is the important rule. If there are no grass leaves, it ain’t growing much.

Not always as easy in practice of course….
