The hypocrisy never ends, two Olympic sailors are blockading the oil refinery in Southampton. Who is going to produce the jet fuel so they can fly off to their next contest? Who next Lewis Hamilton
Ohh @Exfarmer, they are not flying, they are going to sail there! The hypocrisy never ends, two Olympic sailors are blockading the oil refinery in Southampton. Who is going to produce the jet fuel so they can fly off to their next contest? Who next Lewis Hamilton
Cut APD on short haul, increased it on long haul.
The usual Treasury game of giving with one hand whilst taking with the other.
Bankers sipping champagne while they fly around was mentioned by the opposition.Just realised Chancellor has cut air passenger duty, Had passed me by. I suppose to cut his cost flying home from the office. Oh no, of course the tax payer will pick that up
Long haul was defined as 5000 miles so you can still fly London to New York “short haul”. He’s a cracker isn’t he.Cut APD on short haul, increased it on long haul.

Thanks, picked that up wrong.Risky put the APD rates up almost as much for people flying between 2000 and 5500 miles too:
"From April 2023, the international distance bands will be set at 0-2,000 miles, 2,000-5,500 miles and 5,500 miles-plus, and the applicable APD rates will be £13, £87 and £91 respectively for economy passengers."
Just the opposite is happening in France and some other EU countries, all domestic flights under 2.5 hours are banned if the equivalent train/TGV journey is available..The message is that taking domestic flights is to be encouraged.
When is this beginning ? Is it inter eu countries or just within each one ?Just the opposite is happening in France and some other EU countries, all domestic flights under 2.5 hours are banned if the equivalent train/TGV journey is available..

You think Rishi's maybe dropped a bollock on this one?Just the opposite is happening in France and some other EU countries, all domestic flights under 2.5 hours are banned if the equivalent train/TGV journey is available..
Do we have any domestic flights in the U.K. where the train would be viable and sensible as an alternative? I can’t think of any. Other than perhaps LHR-MAN.Just the opposite is happening in France and some other EU countries, all domestic flights under 2.5 hours are banned if the equivalent train/TGV journey is available..

You may be right.
You've got to applaud him for the comedy value though, perfect timing for COP26. It'll have them rolling in the aisles. "Oh Rishi, you crack us up, now tell all us delegates what you REALLY taxed in the budget"..........

I do see Air France flying Paris to Nice, Marseille, Toulouse, Lyon, Bordeau, Florence, Clement, and Brest though - all of whom I’m fairly sure have train stations.

My thoughts were with the Man Utd team who flew to play Leicester as the motorway was busy
