All Wales NVZ

They don’t weigh your cows and they dont stand at the gate counting loads of slurry and the figures are pointless guesstimates at best for a pointless regulation so NVZ should be treated by farmers with the contempt it deserves.
Here, just over the border in England they use standard figures to calculate the amount of slurry you produce so whilst they might not stand at the gate counting tanker loads of slurry, they will sit at the kitchen table, calculators and note pads in hand, checking figures such as cow numbers, yard area and even amount of water to wash the parlour to calculate how much slurry you produce.
They pulled me up as I hadn’t used their standard figures of how much water I used to wash the parlour.
Plant wash was easy as it was how many wash troughs of a known volume but they thought they’d got me on how much water is used by the volume washer. I was able to tell them that water storage for the volume washer is an ibc and the water volume is marked on the side so it’s relatively easy to see how much is used. They were happy enough..........or at least gave up at that point.

I’m afraid when it comes to an inspection it’s no good dismissing the figures as pointless guesstimates, you will have to justify what you have written down

I can't find the data online. I'll call them tomorrow to ask for it.....
Here you are @davidroberts30 I've finally got hold of the spreadsheet of confirmed pollution incidents from NRW. Makes interesting reading:

Bear this in mind when you read it through though...

They have issued a small statement on the matter basically thanking the lawyers for winning the argument to present to full court hearing.

However, if ever there was a case for a united front with FUW, this is it and it would be materially much stronger if both Unions came together on this as it potentially affects all Welsh farmers

I suspect that would (quite rightly) require the FUW to put their hand in their pocket and contribute to the cost? It's all evidence to be presented by sols- which don't come cheap, and I doubt the FUW have anything similar to the Legal Assistance Scheme to pay for it

In that case, only NFU Cymru members should be exempted if the appeal is successful.... :)

I understand that the hearing is towards the end of this week. Fingers crossed that common sense prevails

Update ...

Had an email from NFU Cymru earlier this afternoon.

Hearing is tomorrow and may take two days.
However, they think judgement will be “reserved” so we are unlikely to know the outcome for weeks or possibly months.

Would be amazed if there's an outcome, either way, before the Winter fair. Either way, it's not going to be the message Lesley will want to deliver whilst doing her Christmas shopping.

Just another heads up on the legal challenge mounted by NFU Cymru ....... (the Union that works for us, eh?)

Hearing took place on Tuesday & Wednesday but unfortunately the judge was called away on urgent business during the Welsh Government's barrister's submission so the hearing needs another half day to complete. This will take place in a few weeks time.

It is the considered opinion that judgement will be reserved (probably until the New Year)

Their barrister is on a sticky wicket, especially now that the “sewage” issue has hit the fan!

Very likely.
I noted from the email that the NFU Barrister will be allowed another rounding up session after the WG bod so hopefully (s)he will highlight the inequities of agriculture complying whilst water companies are given the go ahead to discharge.
The rainfall over the last two days is enough to challenge a lot of farm lagoons and we are 3 months away from being allowed to spread.

Proscription by date never works

Remind us - effectively - how many water companies there are here in Wales, will you...? :angelic:
