Here, just over the border in England they use standard figures to calculate the amount of slurry you produce so whilst they might not stand at the gate counting tanker loads of slurry, they will sit at the kitchen table, calculators and note pads in hand, checking figures such as cow numbers, yard area and even amount of water to wash the parlour to calculate how much slurry you produce. They don’t weigh your cows and they dont stand at the gate counting loads of slurry and the figures are pointless guesstimates at best for a pointless regulation so NVZ should be treated by farmers with the contempt it deserves.
They pulled me up as I hadn’t used their standard figures of how much water I used to wash the parlour.
Plant wash was easy as it was how many wash troughs of a known volume but they thought they’d got me on how much water is used by the volume washer. I was able to tell them that water storage for the volume washer is an ibc and the water volume is marked on the side so it’s relatively easy to see how much is used. They were happy enough..........or at least gave up at that point.
I’m afraid when it comes to an inspection it’s no good dismissing the figures as pointless guesstimates, you will have to justify what you have written down
