Muckspreading insanity

Drove through Skipton area yesterday, slurry going on everywhere. How does that make sense? Surface applied coming up to the wettest time of year ok there's growth just now but it'll soon stop. If they want to waste nutrients they can ship it up to me and I'll use it in the spring.
Whilst this might look a little dodgy unless there are any water courses anywhere in the vacinity I'm not sure what the problem would be, this is not much different to livestock being wintered outdoors & sh!ting all winter long?
Once again the government & EA are using a massive sledgehammer to crack a nut!

Saw this cartoon from Private Eye earlier today... It seems highly appropriate....

This was some fym spread in early November.
I think it clearly demonstrates that the crop had 'an immediate need' and utilised it perfectly well.
But even then, I would not have been given permission from the EA as they said you "could only do so if there were no alternative ways of disposing of the organic matter".
As is the legal requirement, we all have plenty of room to store in Autumn so I didn't have to spread, I did it because it was the right thing to do.
It is EA policy that no manure should be spread, however perfect the conditions until such a point when you have no alternative, and then have to whatever the risk at that point.
That position makes the EA, not fit for purpose.

How is stuff like plastics, wipes etc. removed from sewage?
Exactly how I couldn’t tell you but simple answer, at sewage treatment works.
There was a piece on early morning tv a few weeks back where they were at a sewage treatment works in Manchester and they said they removed 8 skip loads a day, a large proportion of which was wet wipes.
I presume there is more than one sewage treatment works in Manchester, I suspect quite a few.

Why does the farmer need a justification from a FACTS qualified adviser? The reasons you gave in your post that might qualify for a 'derogation' pretty self explanatory without a fella or lass wearing a Schoffel being required to give 'permission'. All the FACTS man is going to say is 'big straw crop' or 'ah I see that is direct drilled' and then issue a permit for manure. As bad as the Red Tractor man. Hey ho.
I take your point & I'm no fan of Red Tractor, but using a FACTS advisor (ie your agronomist) backs up the fact that you have the support of a professional. No professional is going to try & justify spreading large amounts of slurry on waterlogged ground in the Winter (or Summer for that matter)

And why are farmers deemed to be NOT professional? Fekking outrageous.

Which means food price goes up, which means people realise how expensive it is to live and decide to have fewer children which reduces populations which solves a lot of our problems?
the people causing the problems with large families are the people on benefits, which increase with the cost of living, those who pay for their children already have fewer as the price of food rises!

Interesting observation. I wonder how you explain a certain Mr Boris Johnson (6 children - well he isn't sure so how can we be there are not more). A Mr Rees Mogg again six children. Mrs Elizabeth Windsor with four albeit now adult children. I could go on - but will not. But lets stereotype benefits claimants shall we?

Last I checked, they were actually all on benefits/ being paid by the taxpayer ;-).
