Manitou MLT 634 with Merc does not start ?

Hi,

I have a problem, when I turn the key it does not show anything on the gear display, it says N on the display on the main speed clock.
It does not even start to turn the engine. When I short the starter engine starts, hydraulic works but transmission number is still off and it stays in N, it does not drive.

Mechanic thinks it could be transmission ECU, that it should give N to that relay on the back so it lets the current to the starter.
Fuse board is new, installed few months ago.

@ACEngineering please help :)

Check fuse F8
Located plug H on fuse board, top pin likes to get hot and melt a bit of plastic over the terminals.

Check you have power out of that top pin on plug H.

Check the big red stop button in cab, that has several switches under it that disconnect stuff, one of them will be the transmission ECU I'm sure.

You might then be looking at a ECU but check the multi plug on front corner of cab under transmission panel and the plug on ECU.
Should be easy to check the power feed to ECU imo as the pin out for the plug is easy to follow on the pdf.

Should add I have never sold a transmission ECU in 20 years and I think your possibly only the second person ever asked for one.

If N isnt lit up then there will be no power to ECU or no power out. With out that ECU powered up it will not start anyway. so you can rule out anything on the starting circuit for now.

Thanks a lot ! I will try to check all that that you have said. I must ask my mechanic if he knows where to check for those power supply voltages.
If you have some photos it would be great.

I would have to email you the PDF but if he is a dealer then he will already have access to all the info I have and more.

Trust me, nobody has infos that you have about Manitous.
I know that mechanics dont like to be told what to look for but I would just throw some suggestions.

It was the last 12V power wire on the plug on that ECU for transmission. We put new wire and it starts and drives ! You do know your job @ACEngineering :)

Only thing I have a dot on that gear display, not number. What could that be ?

Depends what wire you put in. You might not have done the main feed but something else.

Cant remember what the dot is for?? Might be something to do with the test mode??? Would have to look it up.

I have changed wire in 38 pin I think it was, it is to power up the ECU. I have photo saying what pin on the ECU is for what.

Find the orange rocker switch with a trailer on it and turn it off. It blocks what the display says is 5th gear on the old models but on yours it will be blocking 6th. (its actually still blocking 6th on old model cause they didn't have 5th enabled in the box so jumped from 4th to 6th in the box while the dash said it was 5th)
