Does anyone seriously think any politician would have handled the covid crisis better? They might have done things differently, but that doesn't mean it would have been better.

IMO we should have had a total ban on people entering the Country as soon as the situation arose, but any politician that did that would have been (metaphorically) lynched.

Even now, any new restriction on international travel are met with howls of anguish from the travel industry and the public.
Yes. The problem with our democracy is that the public and media don't know what's good for them. The media like to stir it to get ratings so making it more difficult to sensibly govern.
So no politician dare to do the right thing.
A dictator is what's needed to bring this country round.

Tories have been dogged with sleeze and incompetence for as long as I can remember. But as far as I know this does not cost me money.....
Mumblings from Labour before the last election included Mansion tax, land tax, garden tax.....
That would cost me money.
Probably vote Tory again next time. Hopefully with a more presentable candidate than Boris. What's the alternative ? Starmer ? No thanks.
It will cost you money, did you not notice Rishi has cranked up taxes and nic to cover the billions they have dished out to their donors?

I think you will find we are nearly there.

They all want your money, just the way they dress it up us different. I would favour; big death duties and equality between "self employed" (note the use of inverted commas) and employed tax and ni rates. But then these would both benefit me :).
The reality is that it is employed people like me in the middle to high income bracket that pay most of the tax and NI.

Was discussing this yesterday, and decided a benign dictatorship is the only way to run the place, if long term policies and strategies are to be implemented.
The flaw in the theory is that Gaddafi started out as a national hero and a benign dictator.

Boris is the obligatory fall guy.
The Tories will carry on with him for now, rather than "contaminate" another prospective leader.

Mrs May very nearly lost to Corbyn and would have done if the Grenfell Tower fire had been a week earlier.

Boris thrashed Corbyn because he is likeable and electable.

Why so many posters are knocking Boris I don't know, when farm prices have never been so good.

I like Boris and hope he wins the next election, but I don't like all the green krap, or the tax hikes. However they would be greener and higher with the reds in charge.

Think it's fair to say that political parties at general elections, are elected mainly on the personality / charisma of the leader at the time, rather than any deep political debate or philosophy. So Boris is safe for now, until the opposition can discover a coherent, smooth talking, attractive young person to run the show. [remind you of anyone]....?

The biggest problem for Boris and the Tories is still Brexit and the quiet for now, Brexit leaning parties.
Starmer and Labour don't stand a chance either, when the red wall are reminded of how they screwed up and tried to reverse the withdrawal.

Prices are good just now but not through any deliberate policies. It margins going forward that are the problem.

It is quite possible that the Tory Party, in their thirst for perpetual power at any cost, will sacrifice either or both N. Ireland and Scotland to independence, probably Scotland. They will pretend that they want them to remain in The Union but actually welcome their independence, knowing that without Scottish MP’s and constituencies, they are most likely to remain in absolute power in Westminster and over the rest of their dominion for many decades.
