Hi All,

I apologise if this is already a topic of discussion on here, but I haven't been able to find it.

Following the editorial note in October's (or maybe November's) Farmers Weekly, I have signed up for the educational project "Farmer Time", that used to be called "FaceTime a Farmer".
For those who aren't aware, this is an initiative that seeks to pair classrooms of schoolchildren across the UK with Farmers who will speak to them remotely on a regular basis to help educate the next generation about agriculture.

While I have some limited experience in education, I have never done anything like this before, and so I am wondering if anyone has any experience that they would like to share. There are forums I believe on the farmer time website, but I thought that asking here would have the double whammy of spreading awareness of the initiative among cumputer literate farners such as yourselves.

My biggest obstacle - or maybe the children's biggest obstacle) initially I think will be my thick Ulster accent! I've been paired with a school in the south east of england, so that should be interesting!

My wife signed up for it, it is an excellent idea. She is a very experienced teacher doing outdoor/ rural, agricultural stuff with kids all the time.
She was shocked that she had no vetting, or back up from Farmertime. She was just given the schools details and told to get on with it.
Great idea but needs some work.
What sort of things does she do with her class - in so far as it's possible to do interact over facetime?

I hope they can make themselves understood as well.
Good idea to get involved as the population moves away from rural connections even in rural towns round here.
Just keep it very basic which would sound patronising to fellow farmers but remember they might not even know that milk is from a cow.
And if you can persuade them that livestock are not the cause of climate change, even better.
