Fert spreader choice

Hi Guys, I am looking to buy my own fert spreader after using a contractor for a number of years. I want section control, variable rate and all that kind of stuff so I believe it has to be hydraulic drive.
Is there a front runner make and model or anyone to avoid?

There are a few threads already but I think basically there are vicon/kv/ kubota all the same spreader or sulky. Amazone are ok but the spread pattern isn’t my personal favourite.

Anyone got any opinions on krm??? Thinking to changing to one this spring, not worried about section or VR but like the idea of on board weigher.

Newer amazones seem to all stripe to some extent.

Yup, on my second KRM. Excellent machines with fantastic back up from KRM.
I would say it’s a choice between KRM and the Vicon/Kubota Geospread machines.
The Geosppread machines possibly have the edge when it comes to headland spreading.
The weighing facility is excellent. Once you have it you will wonder why you went so long without it. Even better payback now with the price of fertiliser particularly when you need to avoid over/under use.

Of all the technology you can buy I think weighing fertiliser spreaders are top of the list for getting your money back on the investment.

I’m on my 3rd krm and would quite happily have another. Mine is iso bus and section control but no variable rate. Will probably go hydraulic drive next time just to reduce the changes in speed as I go up and down banks.

1st year of yield maps this year and there’s definitely a reduction on the headlands. I am sure it’s not just the headland setting on the spreader, I wonder if it could be changed as there seems to be a very sharp cutoff with the krm. Although that’s probably better than chucking it in the hedges especially this year.

I know of 2 guys that have had initial problems with the KV spreader which took some sorting like spreading more one one side than the other so has put me off a bit which is a pity as I have a Tellus Go control box already.

I’m on my second, did a demo for a neighbour and they bought one off the back of it. Can think of at least 3 others locally running them and not heard of any problems, other than one person leaving the ladder on the back and it dropping into the veins and making a mess 🤦🏻‍♂️.

I’m not getting sales commission by the way 🤣

I bought a sulky x40 econov in 2019. It was the cheapest by some margin when all was spec’d to do all what is mentioned here. Very easy to use, absolutely no striping in 3 seasons and no problems. Very accurate with weight and easy to use variable rate. Would definitely buy again.
I didn’t have one before, as i have been liquid for a lot of years. This is at least twice as fast with less capacity and much easier to use.

ive an amazone ZAM and very happy with it, mine is fairly basic but the amazone ZATS is just about the best spreader money can buy from what i have seen, those ones are not cheap though.

Kuhn HEMC for hydraulic drive

If going amazone then a za ta is the one to go for.

I'm onto my 3rd kv and it's very good but I do miss hydraulic drive for hills
Kv spread pattern definitely works on hills I had Kuhn before and where it striped the kv just doesn't unless I've nor set it right but it just stripes everything then not just hills
