Drivers taking tractors for tractors runs

I am not a fan of road runs at all, and I've got a tractor with a cb aerial, air horn, light bar and 2 flashing lights! I even have a 900kg weight block with big tool box! I worked out once I must do 10-15,000 road miles per annum on a tractor as it is, as well as some 2000hrs+ of tractor work a year, so I don't feel the need to pay to do it, wear my tyres, burn my diesel and waste my time, I think maybe it's different when you are the one paying.

Not taking away what these road runs do at all, there are a lot locally and they do incredibly well, they just aren't for me and I'd rather put the money in the box.

Google “Tractor overturns on Malmesbury Roundabout”. Not good as I was told the tractor was en route to a “tractor run”, !!
Iv heard the lad driving didn't ask to use the tractor and insurance might not pay out because was none agricultural.

We just had a static display with tractors in local park. Because council didn't give permission for road run. Did it same night as Xmas tree light switch on.

The public seemed to love it. Was hundreds of people there to see them.

In my opinion it's a good opportunity to show farming and agriculture in a positive light. I organised it and the amount of people that contacted me to ask how much it cost to get in to see tractors was crazy.

Was first year, but plan to do it again next year. We take for granted these big machines we work with every day but children love ❤ them! Especially lit up like Xmas trees.

Local tractor run had 87 tractors do a 25 mile run and raised £1125 for charity but they must burned that in diesel alone! Just seems a daft excuse for a jolly and p*** off a load of motorists.
Not all tractor runs are equal though, I believe it was closer to 56k with other donations plus food donations to the food bank. I’m sure the children that will benefit wouldn’t be complaining.

I used to hold that view (post #12 on this thread). But have been persuaded otherwise now.
The Sheepy and District ploughing match association did 2 tractor runs on Friday and Saturday nights in December and raised over 20K.
Building on the popularity of the year before and with a lot of publicity there were huge numbers of people out along the routes to see them.
One tractor was dressed as Rudolf with a red nose and antlers, all had lots of Christmas lights, one was blowing out "snow" (some sort of foam) and he final vehicle was a telehandler with a sleigh complete with blow up Santa "flying" above it.

The majority of tractor insurance sold in UK does include usage for social, domestic and pleasure as standard (as previously stated by another member). No harm in ringing your broker to check.
As a business we will not sell tractor insurance that does not include social, domestic and pleasure use.

If no tractor runs ,or ploughing / working days and some saying waste of fuel ,miserable feckers ,each to their own interests,
lets ban bike ,car racing ,or any motor sport , that matter , that burns fuel , most sportninfact ,be it driving or flying 0000 miles to compete in what ever
but then that will be different and ok ,
we do road ,run and ploughing , match , and done couple grand and more sometimes , towards air ambulance ,most years
and last year ,bulb fields was open for vistitors , between every one involved puttingbon the event it raised over £24 k ,for a local hospice ,over a couple weekends and a few days inbetween
so just hope you miserable f**kers dont need their services

Why do people get so worked up about taking a tractor out for a road run and having a nice time ?
Probably the same people who think anything that isn’t “work” is a waste of time and anyone who enjoys something different to them is “wrong” tractors are objects art or tool depends on your point of view I don’t see the point of most hobbies other than that people enjoy them and that’s a good thing 25 miles once a year in 50 year old relic or a few hours a day of internet browsing which is worse for the planet?

I like to go on one every year not sure if it’s because I’ve a JD 6r (dual beacons AND front linkage) or it’s just that I like to take my wee boy out for a spin, chat to some like minded neighbours who have a bit of pride and enjoyment in their profession, see it as a way of life (not just a job/burden) and support a local charity usually air ambulance or a church hall roof or something similar.
Unless your wee boy is over 13 it’s illegal surely?
