monday/thursday, next week for us, everything crossed. Once every 4 yrs, just an inconvenience, to every 6 months, nail biting. And the only way to control it, politically not possible, or is it ? If boris is replaced, and his mrs has no influence, perhaps maybe, hopefully, a continuation of the cull.

If Boris is replaced, they'll only start asking for a general election, which will happen eventually (look at may and Boris both didn't want to call a general election but were made to in the end), and quite honestly if a general election was called tomorrow my money is on labour winning with an almost landslide victory and I'm not sure what Kier starmers position on the cull is but at the last election they were firmly against it

Not often the dry cow yard looks this tidy! Picked up all the hay from where the ring feeders were, topped up cubicles with sand, started stripping the stall work on the parlour, one side done, hopefully finish tomorrow and then paint stallwork Tuesday (tb testing at dad's tomorrow)

And a sleeping dry cow, won't lie I felt like joining her 😍😂
Also emptied out the reception pit for the dirty water pit for probably the first time in 20 years, hopefully sorted the parlour pit drainage issue now 👍

We tested just shy of 900 this week and had one solitary reactor today. I'll investigate AFUs next week when I've calmed down but I will probably have to rear 400 blue and Hereford calves this spring to 8 weeks before either giving them away or sending them to slaughter and it means my 40 cows due to calve in August will all be culled this month. Tb will end my farming career before anything else. Sh!t day..
I think Frome market are now holding sales for TB restricted dairy calves @Cows 'n grass

May be worth giving them a call.

The last two elections were called to break a Brexit logjam. The first failed the second succeeded.
No conservative leader with an 80 seat majority is calling an early election unless they are fairly certain of winning.
We probably have the conservatives for at least 3 more years just maybe not Boris.
Secondly in normal politics can labour now win a full majority without Scottish seats.

Sounds familiar sadly

then every now and again a clever dick will pop up on here saying they could easily milk 100-150 cows as a one man band and still have a part time job……..

unless you’ve been there and done it people have no clue what it’s like. One thing goes wrong and your whole day seems to go to pot…….
That last paragraph is my life summed up as one, often get asked why I'm doing certain job at funny time of day, and my response is it's when I bloody got chance to do it!

I love it when sales reps turn up and say why haven't I started milking yet in the afternoon, I usually respond with something along the lines of "because I'm stood here talking to you!"

We had the feedco rep call in the other day said he just been to your place but couldn’t make anyone home but he didn’t think you were milking anyway with all the hanging baskets everywhere 🤣

Were my wife works in veterinary industry, reps ring to book appointment, then bring full m&s lunch for everyone and often a hamper bag of goodies, quite common and often the practice does no business with them. Think ag industry is poor, maby a hat or pen after 1000t of orders!

They called in here.
I asked for a price for next winters cake when I was pricing it up, never got back to me.
Obviously my face doesn't fit

Father and I have be known to start wittering on to reps that used to cold call in here in something that resembled Eastern European language 🤣 they’d soon disappear, hardly see any now to be honest that haven’t made a appointment
Covid was quite useful as an excuse 😂 I just don't understand why they can't phone ahead atleast

The only thing worse than an uninvited salesman is a delivery driver turning up randomly... had one turn up halfway through our tb test at dads on Friday, of course no one there to unload him! Feed companies need to start investing in the little telehandler things so that drivers can unload themselves...

Ours do have one of those forklifts. Probably been moaning to themselves about farmers never being around to unload.

I wasted pretty much an entire day unloading one not too long ago out ona lay-by because he decided he couldn't fit down our lane 😡 he would have been fine and if I didn't need what he had on his lorry I would have told him to bugger off!

Then a different company turned up to dads with dry cow rolls, I always specifically ask to phone before they leave to let me know what time roughly 🙈🤦‍♂️

You can tell them all you like to ring before they come but normally falls on deaf ears,we have one driver that drops pallets here for Gregory’s and he will ring at least two drops before he’s due here, spot on he is
