How Do You Clean Your Tractor, Or Dont You?

With the price of farm machinery getting more expensive by the day, it , in my opinion pays to try to look after it, if you are lucky to afford to by a brand new tractor, do you first, like me put seat covers on?, do you try to wash the outside of the tractor to keep it looking smart and stop corrosion setting in, what do you use, best thing i bought was an extending cleaning brush, use a bucket of water with some shampoo waxer in it, that and a hand spong? ive also got a pressure washer with a foam gun, used that a few times, i think foam guns are a bit over rated? Do you try to then either wax the bonnet and mudguards, spray duckoil, wd 40 round the back end? Any comments please? One of the worst jobs i find for getting a tractor dirty is muckspreading .

Use to pressure wash and polish tractors like crazy but these days I blow them down with an airline and keep pressure washing to a minimum. Too many electrics and wanting to keep them longer is my reason . If only to last 5 or 6 years it's different . Only time I really get the pressure washer out is after spreading fert.

I agree with most things you say apart from seat covers. I used to use them, until I realised that I’d had an uncomfortable seat cover for 6 or 7000 hours, only to hand the like new seat to the next owner!

Wash regularly (once a week at least)
Dry and ceramic spray every 2nd or 3rd wash.

Inside kept like new. Seat cover on unless on a clean job, or it’s summer time and clothes are clean. Gloves gloves gloves every time you leave cab. No grease or dirt on any buttons.
rubber mat over the carpet and bags on the pedals. for any muddy jobs. Easily removed to enjoy the carpet and socks on clean work.

good to here that colin v6, you do wonder when you have a look round a dealers yard and see the state of some tractors that are trade ins? but only a few years old, that have suffered no care or attention? must be penalised in the price allowed against a new one?

Is that a rubber mat to go on the carpet, that is on the rubber mat?

Tractors are washed the day I take the pictures to sell them and not before unless some major repair involves getting into the bowels of the thing so deep I need to see some of the metalwork.

Why is that exactly?? No time or just no interest?

Live shots. Busy tipping muck on stubble with no hydraulic door so it’s a bags and wellies kind of day. Not a speck of mud or grease on any points of contact though. :) It’s suprisingly easy to keep this way IF YOU WANT TO.
