New information about local nature recovery and landscape recovery

Having read most of the posts on here, is no-one else slightly offended that the initial assumption seems to be that landscape and nature have not been looked after by the custodians? Surely we all have a favourite corner of the farm where nature runs a little wilder and a few trees get dug in?
I have about an acre where nature is suitably guided and it's just there for my family and I to enjoy, not to be trampled by those enjoying the 'public goods'.

Perhaps that should be the headline story.

Defra finally recognises the huge amount of time and effort farmers expend on looking after the environment with no reward and so have decided to shift the entire pot of money that used to support farming, to supporting the failing and incompetent charities that are meant to be doing it.

Plenty of farms losing money even with bps. What is the point.
Just curious, but how do you see removal of BP affecting your business, reliant as it is on contract farming / FBT agreements underpinned by BPS. Who do you see absorbing the cut in income, landlord or tenant? Or given high commodity prices and low cost systems will such reduction be insignificant for you?
Here on grade three with a lot of quite high cost FBT farming arrangements , I can see it hardly being worth their effort long term.

what we are doing farming wise goes a long way towards it. Private carbon and natural capital markets should also help But they in their infancy.
It may all end up being a complete disaster, but we have been working studiously towards this all for a while. The fact is some land is probably not worth farming And that really doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I can see 30% of the most volatile and lower performing areas being in stewardship, giving a base of fixed income. It is then as simple as fitting the machinery to the area for economies of scale, nothing new there.

I'm not sure what it tells us, hence my asking. They have headed the page 'A quick word on the impact of management' as if it means something, but left it that that. What are they saying ?
Without actually hearing the context I don’t really know.

There's a big difference between 5 or 6 farm owners (who don't need to be all direct neighbours) having the same contractor, and being able to pull out of that arrangement any time they choose, and signing a legal document tying yourself to 5 or 6 direct neighbours (and making your own financial future dependent on them doing what they are supposed to) for 20+ years.
Now mr gower

I do want to see that aspect. I want to know if what I'm doing on the farm is economically viable. If I'm living off the subsidy, which some of us could, then what's the point of running a loss making operation alongside it?
Seeing whether your farming operation stands up unsubsidised is easy enough isn't it?
Obviously, when you start digging it gets complicated....but the initial sum is 'which is greater, the sub or the profit?'
Cos if it's the profit you've got some wiggle room, and if it's the sub, you're in trouble.

But in fact i was talking about those outside farming, esp in whitehall.
As I've pointed out before, not many farmers sock their subs away in Swiss bank accounts. Many simply let it slip through the pinkies...right back into the wider economy.
