The early group and pure Texels should start lambing about the 4th March this year, so just 6 weeks left to go!! It's coming round quick.
The girls above will be starting about the 20th March

The cost me £180 as yearlings off a friend who buys them as ewe lambs, his replacements cost £140! Only only run 80 scotch just to bred some real nice Suffolk cross to sell as yearlings.

20 lambs down to Longtown this morning. Bigger/better lambs than a fortnight ago (excluding that 2

) - but had been lame. They looked decent compared to what was around.

No idea what trade was doing - ballot meant I was 3rd in the ring and I left for home straight after

15 lambs left to sell and about the same in cull ewes/tups hopefully get them into Dumfries tomorrow if I've time (got 3 cull cows going in, too)

Plenty big winds and unreal rain but no damage unlike you guys farther south. Very wintery blasts of sleet but no snow (although the Lowther hills above me are white). Need to patch the old byre roof and get some pens made up, first lbs could come anytime now on even though 'official' start shouldn't be til the 4th March.

No pics (couldn't feel my hands!!) but Bravoxin10 jagging the ewes the last 3 days... whure of a weather for that job but the earlys and Hoggs really needed done so just got on with it. Feeding everything now, except the hill singles - the poor weather since dosing a month ago, most ewes have gone backwards - but at least I've gotten into 2nd half of Feb before needing to chuck much feeding round, and I'm.still happy the condition they're in.

Triplet scanned ewes and the inlamb hoggs are currently running together on the best grass - they are in tremendous fettle (almost too good!!), so only getting just over 1lb/hd feed and I've Hi energy buckets out at them... but had 2 ewes down with TLD. Lost 1 last week, will see tomorrow how the other is doing. Can't bloody win... I'll up their feed and hoping I don't overcook it bit they're in big fettle

Cows were all bolused last week ready for calving, need to do them all next week for their rotovec-corona and vet is coming for BVD screening.

Farm Assurance was passed on Tuesday, still waiting on this trailer

To make up for no pics yesterday...

The first Beltex lambs are here

Earliest they could arrive was yesterday, knew this girl looked close but I wasn't expecting anything until maybe middle of next week. 1 lamb has a little crooked neck, but they're big (bigger than I was expecting seeing as they're Beltex!), strong lambs. Both have sucked and appear to be doing fine

Wee dusting of snow last night/ this morning but I was later out to the ewes - after watching the Olympics men's curling final. Lower ground was clearing off by time I was out but top of the hill still had a cover

Didn’t think you’d have any time for shepherding.Thought you’ll be glued to the curling. I assume curling is a small world do you know any of the competitors.

I am distantly linked to Grant Hardie (my dad's cousin, was married to his uncle)... Grant and Hammy are cousins

I know Ross Whyte (5th player) as he grew up playing in Dumfries - I can remember when he was no bigger than the stones! Tipped away back then to do good things in the sport. I know David Murdoch (team GB coach) and a few past female players, too

I don't play anywhere near to the level of them though

March ; in like a mouse, out like a lion - is how it appears to be going... hopefully the lion is a pussycat and we get it good at both ends. But it's been lovely and settled so far.

Fvck up fortnight looks like it might be underway... 4 ewes for fallen stock tomorrow morning

had a ewe lamb twins on Wednesday night, all looked fine. Thurs morning I thought lambs were empty, caught the ewe and the bag feels perfect but it's water she's milking... and it stinks! I'm the shed and colostrum for the lambs, all seem fine... Friday morning the ewe is stone dead in the shed and so is 1 lamb

the other lamb appears to be a retard and takes a lot of work to suck the bottle. There was a ewe prolapsed on the hill on Fri morning - nice and fresh and not out far. Catch her at feeding and chuck a harness on her... Noticed she wasn't at the feeding this morning so went hunting. Yep, she's dead

out with the trailer to fetch her home I find a gimmer bellied out in a wet bit - dead too

I was up at my mates Friday afternoon helping get his cows ready for calving. Back home for last round... get to a ewe that looked like it was lambing - prolapse out, bloody... Pegging her last

none of these prolapses have been big/fat - all been twin carrying ewes. Hope to feck it doesn't go like last year and I lose a lot of ewes again

Only 10 ewes lambed so far. 3 sets of twins 7 singles. Biggest day so far today with 4 lambed - 1 twin and 3 singles but 1 single was dead (still in bag). Fetched her in and wet fostered the spare lamb on to her... that was at 9am - 10pm tonight the little bugger has FINALLY figured out to suck the ewe (who's daft keen on it!).

I'm liking the Beltex lambs so far. They're bigger born than I was expecting, don't look like meat machines but Jesus they are just solid when you pick them up. The oldest lambs are starting to fill out now and I think the ones from the ChevX ewes will be something a bit special. Phone was low battery so left on charger earlier when I was banding up lambs but I'll try and get pics tomorrow...

I'm too honest. I should just say nothing ever dies and all my ewes are running with twins.

Oh, and I go on holiday to Las Vegas for the month of lambing - I'm no good at gambling, i just blow all the profits from the previous years record sales...

Spied a ewe in the inbye twins with cleansings hanging from her. Got her caught not sure what was going on waterbag was out but intact and she was slack, but not open. Tried to slip everything back in to stock a harness on her, but the bag burst... worked her a little til she opened up and I got the lambs out - alive but both die not long after. She's a good 7-10 days early

Kept a SuffolkX ewe last year - she had been bad lame as a Hogg so couldn't go. By time she was walking I could see she was in lamb. Did the lamb very well so kept her (and the lamb - it'll lamb to the Beltex next month, carrying twins!)... she's lambed twins this morning but no sure if it's her or one of the lambs but they're not staying together, so they're in the shed now.

4 ewes lambs today so far - 3 twins and a single. All good lambs. Starting to feel like lambing is here
