anyone taking a p & k holiday on silage ground this year and just applying N? or is this a bad idea? ive no slurry
I general, if your indexes are OK a P holiday for one or two years is not a big issue, but will have to made up for and it will get increasingly difficult to build back P as tougher and tougher environmental rules come into force.
K is essential for silage, every bit as important as N and there is no quicker way of running it down than silage. It is also very difficult to rebuild your K index on silage ground as silage has a tendency to take up extra K if it is available, luxury uptake.
Do not take a K holiday on silage ground, you will pay for it for many years to come, with reduced yields and short lived swards.

So, despite all these high prices, I don't hear of many countries "missing out". With reports of increased plantings, has there been enough fert produced for this season or not?
it’s amazing what fear does. Panic panic there’s none left. the fact is your get the Fert in March April. And so will the rest of the world when it’s needed. This Fert shortage is a f in con.

Prices here for urea are down 70$ from a month ago. Phosphate still holding strong. Next hurdle here will be getting it, truckers are protesting over mandatory vaccination. Shops are short of fresh fruits and veggies out of the states and neighbour was to get soya meal today and said there is already a two week wait from just a three day stoppage in trucking.

Too right!!!!! It's like it with all markets it's talked up or down to suit the big multi nationals. You can bet your right bollock that aslong as there's a healthy margin in it for them"the supplier" they'll keep finding it.

Ironic that a year or so ago trucker were praised for keeping the food on shelves while others hid away at home living off furlough for fear of dieting from covid. Same truckers now are still wanting to do their jobs but told they can’t without a vaccine. Yet government officials have been caught travelling all over the world breaking their own rules and making a mockery of the ones that got us to where we are.

This farming lark is just like going to Newmarket races. There’s alot of punters. Small amount of bookies. And the bookies very rearly lose. But there’s really no one that gives a sh t about the horse.

I didn’t apply any bagged K on a field last year. Was index 3.9. It did get about 40kg/Ha from poultry litter before 1st cut but that was it. 1st cut 6.5TDM/Ha, 2nd 5T, 3rd 4T. Tested after and only dropped to index 3.5, thought it would have dropped further.

Was the poultry litter tested?
40kg/ha seems a small amount, was it a very light dose of litter?
