Can 'farm labour' erect a used shed or kit building-legally?

My father erected several second hand sheds with only farm labour. Having recently bought a house that was built by a "qualified" house builder and later extended by a "registered" contractor with the work being "inspected" and signed off by the local council building control, I am sure that any half decent farm worker could have done a better job. No - actually a blind chimpanzee with one arm would have done a better job.

I think I've met that builder.

Perfectly capable-I have done it years ago for a contractor who took beam and plated up to make the shed we erected. But are we legal in actually doing so in 2022?

Ag contractor-not building steelwork contractor. Tickets for everything these days-showing legal capability(not taking into account skill of that capability necessarily).

I’d get a price from a ‘competent firm’ (open for definition!) then compare prices to an in house job.

Not sure I’d want to do it these days, if there’s An accident the Paper work would be a big pain.

sounds like the same builder that built my house, we had a whole new heating system put in last year the plumbers were laughing from start to finish.

Do we need licenced 'contractors' we have to pay/bods to 'sign off'?
I guess the whole idea of doing it yourself is to save money ,Are you actually going to save any with all things taken into consideration and do you have the available time as it will take a lot longer for someone to do it for the first time ,How big is the building going to be ?

On the legality, the law regarding construction is the The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, plus other health and safety laws. But there's no requirement to be licenced to be a builder/contractor as such.

But I'd suggest if CDM is a completely new concept and the building kit could get someone killed, you get someone in to at least help run the job.
