Barley is getting serious up here in North Yorkshire. Talking to a cattle feeder yesterday using 70 tonnes a week giving £305 ex farm, his best merchant offer yesterday was £325 delivered. Whether folk are hanging on until the new tax year before selling I don’t know but if not it’s a long time until harvest if your struggling to get it now
I could do an artic load at £300 if anyone interested.

How does ADHB arrive at their average market prices for the week? I have a seed contract which is based on their price. I have got the result of a load delivered on 24/03/2022. Their average figure for that week was £288.20. On the same day, I was offered £302 ex by my local mill for feed. So my seed premium was effectively eroded by £14. I am seriously considering stopping growing seed. It's not worth the drying and storage hassles.

I always thought the premium on seed it pittance compared to the "value" of it compared to feed wheat for example. Even milling wheat which I grow mostly for just £20 a tonne (fractions of a penny per loaf) compared to "animal feed only" grade seems crazy. Compare that to stock feed veg vs. market price veg.

Is that a country wide average price or region specific?

Our seed contract is price for our region, ie East Anglia. I'm pretty sure it's on the FW price too rather than AHDB (but I'll have to go check that....)
