Life's so easy in the uk....
Average house price in the 1970s was £4.057.
Average wage was £3,594. House = 1.13years salary.

2020: Average house price: £268,349
Average wage: £31,285 House = 8.58 years salary
You forgot to add one important influencer on the ability to pay.

In the 70's the Bank base rate was never below double digits, at one point in the 70's it was 17%.

The Bank base rate in the UK today, is 0.5% !!

House prices have always been about the ability to pay, not common sense.

Materials prices jumping every week ,now white deisel in the builders machinery ,all the other price hykes,,nobody has got anything to spend on building work now ,,just living is costing too much.
Had two jobs cancelled yesterday ,,customers couldn't afford it.
I've been at home all week, nothing to do

The bubble is going to burst big time in the construction sector and then they’ll be hundreds of thousands unemployed. Interest rate rises, inflation will stop people buying houses. I know plenty with good jobs who were thinking of moving house or extending existing houses. Pretty much all of them have shelved the idea.

A family of 5 gets around 1700 a month just on benefits if they play the system!!
....no too much incentive to go out to work 😣😣

Take £1000/month off that for rent, another £250 for gas, electric and just over £100 a week to feed five doesn't look so great does it?

There's few on here who need to "walk a mile in another man's shoes"

Most people would love to be in a situation where their rent/mortgage, electric bill, Council tax, car, pick up, RFL motor fuel etc. all comes out of the "farm" account. Not to mention the few bales of hay/loads of muck sold for cash or the odd cheque cashed at the pub.

I bet every deal @Hfd Cattle boasts about gets declared.

Alot of folks have given up full time work and moved into farming .

They boarded their lofts out ,,put loads of insulation in ,borrowed the electric and are farming 3 crops a years without leaving the house
That's what is paying for everything.

Got the figures of the local newspaper website which produced a table of the 'benefit increases' that were coming jn as from the 1st April.
...plus we have tenants living on 'benefits' and they aren't living too badly !!

So you are complaining about a Benefits system that allows your tenants to pay pay you money that they otherwise wouldn't be able to give you?

How did you get to own the house the tenants are living in? Through subsidised farm profits or because you inherited untaxed wealth?

C'mon people, cut the benefits crap.

There are currently around 1.5 million unfilled job vacancies in the UK, why should anyone be unemployed ?

Ever the optimist!

But, I think you are right the current house prices are unsustainable and need a good correction without the Government bailout this time.

No, chance.

You can still buy 10 year fixed mortgages for under 4%.............

Actually just over 3%, but that’s at the moment. Give it 12 months and it could easily double if it all goes wrong.
The amount of people in full time employment is going up, those in temp employment is going down. Annual pay increases currently stand at 4.3%, The only thing that can put a spoke in the wheel, is the Chancellor and the Bank of England.

Inflation is in free fall and in the building trade it’s running at over 20% but yes I agree and it’ll be the BOE that does it.

A fair percentage of the unemployed are serial scroungers,,they have been all their lives and have no intention of getting a job ,,got some in this village .
The kids look at their parents who have been swinging a lead for years and follow them,,more than happy to be little scrotes causing trouble instead of making something of year lives

The actual figure for long-term unemployed is quite low. However, I bet we all know plenty in our Industry who are quite happy to do as little as possible and take to loot.

Remember, all those you claim are 'swinging a lead ' still need to eat, and for that reason, they are our customers, like it or not.
