Hauling People

Aye-up,

I’m reasonably sure it’s legal to transport people on the road on a tractor and trailer. Never mind the fuel thing, that will require white diesel.
It will only be about 5-6 people for a distance of a couple of miles.

What will be the requirements to do the job legally and, more importantly, safely?

Can an adapted farm trailer be used or does it require a proper people moving trailer like you might see at big farming demonstrations?

Cheers, Pete.

If there's any form of "reward" involved it's a whole different ballgame.

I was on a Driver CPC course a few years ago and one of the other attendees was there because he drove an old coach that took the daffodil pickers to and from the fields-as it was part of his job (as a farm worker) it was deemed that he did the driving for a "reward"

Pete, it is perfectly legal to carry people on a flat bed trailer, provided they are over 13. It is also legal to carry those same people if including children on a trailer with sides over 18inches I think.
on n H&S front they should have suitable seating ie. A double line of straw bales.
the next point is insurance, make sure they are happy with what you propose.
Then lastly is the issue of red and I have absolutely no idea sorry.

I’ve read some advice on a website for a company who builds such trailers. Most of them are based on their standard goods carrying trailers.
One of the guidelines states there are to be no paying passengers.
Other guidelines talk of legal braking systems etc.
I have an Indespension tandem axle trailer with all the legal over run brakes and lights . It would be easy to fix suitable seating in to it and barriers along the sides.
All passengers would be over 16 years of age and with their parents consent.
