Not a lot, I would be inclined to just make a portable isolator (air gap to prevent siphoning) for the line, and use one

or make a trough from a barrel like on Russ' video I linked, but put the valve above the water level and kink the float arm downwards
Water company not only wants an air gap but the water has to overflow out of the drinker before it gets to the inlet level.
Had to cut the side down on some concrete drinkers to pass inspection

Not a lot really as far as I can see. It is one of those rules that when they brought it in did make you think wtf is the actual level of risk from not having an air gap.
the bliss of having our own water supply, even though we seem to be, constantly buggering about with it. Our recent week, on the 'mains' @ £45 a day, quickly makes you forget about the constant buggering about. And prompted the 'naughty' thought, of pushing our water, back through the metre, to see if it would change the direction of the dials ! We won't, even though our pressure is greater than mains pressure.
I dread to think how much we spend on water fittings a year, l cannot even see why, we use so many, but we do, thank goodness for e'bay, and pipestock. Had to pick up a T from local supplier, £14.10 + vat, pipestock, £4 ish, including vat, and delivery.

Yeah, it does. But most of them aren't nearly as "bad news" as they're made out to be. I mean you could make very thistly hay and think thistles are sh!t.. but if you don't make hay then thistles aren't so sh!t.

Sheep lambing behind rushes and gorsebushes probably think they're great species to have around
Unsure what bindis are good for.... Unless you own the tire shop in town :rolleyes: :meh:

Have you sold your stock? Are you moving soon? To a new farm?

There seems to be a profusion of Blairs around: Blair house, Pete Blair, Jonny Blair, ( Tony too, but he’s not on this thread-luckily.)
Blair Athol is not far from the new place......

Nor is Balmoral Estate :cool::happy:

No. The whole plot is only 0.2 acres.

We may, longer term, try to gain the use of some adjoining land but aren't looking to really farm again. That'll free our time to spend much more of it out with the dogs, to get really involved in the valley community, to complete my degree and to really push my activism on influencing government rural policy towards agroecological "land sharing" farming rather than "land sparing" (re-wilding, mass forestry etc).

Like you say, a huge adventure!

Edut to add: Is also like to ski again and this is under an hour from Aviemore and Glenshee...

My neighbors ancestors came from Blair Athol. Their property here carries the name.
