We don’t!Point 3. Why do we need Anne Marie Trevelyan at all?

The only way that supermarkets will pay up for eggs is when they stop coming or if the competition puts the price up first. NFU seems happy with continuation of supply at whatever cost to the farmer. That's unlikely to be the approach from a farmer only union.I wish BFU well but won't be joining for the moment. I have watched and supported the recent BFREPA campaign to raise producer prices for FR eggs. A phenomenal amount of press coverage has been achieved by a relatively small group of farmers on an issue that everyone can see is going to be a complete car wreck. The profile of the industry has been raised immensely although no price rises to producers have been forthcoming ( Not a single retailer has replied to correspondence sent by BFREPA!). Do not underestimate the personal time that will be involved to make this a success.

Just looked it up, apparently the plan to save UK ag involves removing market access barriers........
so they are going to tell members to cancel Red Tractor membership on mass then ?
This post by @Clive made earlier in the thread is very clear that the BFU is for farm workers as well as farmers. Only farmers have been mentioned since. Are farm workers allowed to join?British Farming Union (working title subject to later vote)
1) Membership made exclusively of British farmers and farm workers (England, Scotland, Wales and NI)
2) Aims to represent and promote British farming
3) Any member found to be not a active farmer or farm worker will be asked to leave. - joining info and membership to police this
4) One member one vote
5) No commercial activity endorsement to be undertaken, not affiliate schemes, sponsorship to be accepted to give true independence. If a Member or members wish to donate additional funds to support democratically agreed PR or lobbying activity they may do so
6) Low fixed cost structure organisation run by volunteers, will use online platforms to discuss, debate and vote upon issues and form policy. A private forum will be facilitated by TFF FOC for members to use
7) Membership by invitation or request, to join a member will, have to complete a form that both prove they are a farmer or farm worker and provide information about farm type etc that will bring credibility to the organisation, this information fully protected by GPDR regulations with no personal data to ever be shared without consent . A online form will be created to collect and verify this
I assume only if a majority voted to get rid of RT.if NFU was OMOV I would rejoin and support it 100% in a heartbeat
its nepotism is whats destroying it slowly
Unfortunately a shortage is the only way we are going to get fairly paid for anything we produce and the journey to that point is going to be painful. The whole system is broken . Supermarkets will not pay as they are afraid of the discounters and what the discounters pay is not sustainable or compatible with the amount of regulation we are burdened with. Direct subsidies are no longer there to cushion us through the bad times or to put a bottom in the market. Brexit was an opportunity for government to decide what kind of agriculture industry we have in this country. It looks like we are going to get highly regulated home produce competing with unregulated imports. How do you think that is going to pan out? What kind of industry does the BFU advocate? The only way that supermarkets will pay up for eggs is when they stop coming or if the competition puts the price up first. For ten quid, I would join up and enjoy the ride.
I can't speak except as a member, but my vision is for a fairer one than we have now.Unfortunately a shortage is the only way we are going to get fairly paid for anything we produce and the journey to that point is going to be painful. Good start. How are you going to get that?I can't speak except as a member, but my vision is for a fairer one than we have now.
Well by joining the union for a start...Good start. How are you going to get that?
Have you got room after all the others have had a goSo long as Im not stabbed in the back....
I'm not knocking you but how do you propose to tie together the disparate mob that is UK ag and get a coherent message across that can really make a difference?Well by joining the union for a start...

I think there are bigger issues. The coherent message comes from one man one vote on everything. Very simply done via the web for members only. Imagine 50,000 members voting ‘no’ to Red Tractor. Problem solved within 24 hours.
Is it the 1st April? It is beyond belief that during a time of change and turmoil in the world unknown for 80 years with food supplies on a knife edge the organisation who are meant to represent uk ag want us to increase exports when we will soon need everything we can produceView attachment 1033561
