Plough-harrow and roll until a fine, level, firm seedbed is achieved.

It's not about the easy way to do a job, it's about the correct way to do a job.
You will laugh you head off later 😂 when I unload some photos of what I'm about to run our vaderstad over today, and how it looks after, I'm into making money not pritty pictures, like @Jdunn55 rent is one of the biggest drivers for profitability..

Has been all rolled in nice neat lines and hedges all neatly trimmed with no tassly bits.
Meanwhile.....

For me it's about the end result. Who cares how you get there, as long as the grass grows well, that's the important part. By doing less cultivations I'm retaining moisture in the ground which is far more important imo.

Simpler to here we have rocks with a small amount of soil 😬View attachment 1035430
I have less than that to be fair but my main issue is the boulders, there's absolutely loads of these just under the surface. The hedges are picked with them from where myself, the previous 2 tenants and probably the landlord before that have dug them out and dumped them on the hedge out the way! Problem is, for every 10 you dig up, there will be 100 more!

Posh! Clam bucket for the loader, it’s either an old muck grab or pallet tines for that job here!

Thankfully we don't get them, just farm has dozen quarries over it, so under the soil is solid rock, fantastic for spring calving 🤗

Try and not disturb the ground too much here, the stones are like icebergs. This one was poking through the grass about the size of a dinner plate, but when starting to dig the lagoon, it had to come out !

Sounds familiar, the one I put up a minute ago was only showing about a dinner plate through, I grabbed my pick and thought no problem!

It was when the ground started moving about a metre away I realised it was slightly bigger than I originally thought... 🤣

when we dug our lagoon, we didn't find any. We built a bungalow, some bank had to come out, 1 stone, found, in the bottom of the foundation, where we dug back into the bank. And yet, 50m away, is a quarry, l have used for tracks.

Had Vatenfall here years ago doing investigatory work for a possible windfarm. They had a drilling company taking core samples from proposed sites to see whether the geology was suitable for the turbines.
Here they went down between 0.5 and 1.5m and hit solid rock. One of my neighbour fields (still at 1300ft up) on one proposed spots they went down 17m and hit nothing, they re drilled 50m away and hit rock at 1,5m !!!!
