How long would you expect manufacturers to stand by paint work?

We have a 2016 baler, obviously not seen much rain as you don't tend to be baling then.

Always stored in a barn, blown off before put away, washed once before now and only gently, certainly not with power washer.

Not used heavily, very very low bale count.

Paint is bubbling around nearly all fixtures and lifting / peeling on most panel edges.

Obviously if we have knocked/scraped it or where hoses may have rubbed etc I don't have an issue.

Pictures don't really show it well.

We have had some parts shot blasted, primed and powder coated already but looks like it will be an ongoing job.

I'm aware I probably sound a bit odd.........but if I spent the sort of money on a car I would expect it to last better and that's used daily and kept outside!

The life it's had it should be like new.

Looks like powdercoat without cleaning or primer, it can be done properly... look at any Bogballe Fert spreader, or any modern car.
In answer to the question it should be better but that maker didnt care.... name and shame.

looks the same to me. bright steel sheet degreased and powder coated, paint doesn't key on and lifts off in large flakes as soon as moisture gets underneath. Unfortunately this is the norm for machinery of any sort.

I bought a new truck axle grain trailer to tow behind my grain truck. Makes that paint job look new. It was 2 years old in March and will need blasting and re spraying before 5. one axle never had the hubs painted. Well made trailer but pee poor paint job

Had a muck spreader with peeling paint work within 12 months warranty.
Was taken back by dealer and sorted under manufacturers (Shelbourne renoylds) warranty.

6 years is a long time OP.

That's just modern pee poor powder coating.
Can't help but think after 6 years you'd just get laughed away if you complained
Don't even know who to complain to as the dealer I got it from is closed down. Would like to try and get a response from someone even if it is along the lines of "jog on".

I agree 6 years is along time but it's spent probably 5 years 9 months inside doing nothing and that's being conservative.

It pisses me off that because it's farm machinery it's ok. As I said no way would that be acceptable for a car these days.

I guess next time I buy new I need to ask what the service life of the paintwork is and get something in writing.

Powder coating must be cheaper than painting but guessing the metal would need sand/bead blasting to give the paint/powder something to grip on. Unfortunately the price goes up and the quality goes down. :scratchhead:

Good luck on warranty though you might be lucky you would need to get talking to the area representative. They always disappear when I have a problem !!
Although did hear it said Slurrykat gave 7 years paint warranty on their slurry tankers [obviously different manufacturer]

Take a look at a JCB after year & paint is falling off & they will do nothing about it , which is wrong ,I would like to think your baler man would sort your baler paint out but I think it will be a up hill battle
