To FA or, to not FA.

Hi, my friend has an incalf heifer that I’m thinking about buying, but his herds not farm assured?

What will this mean for the animal? Will it affect my FA in any way? I have a feeling that the rules changed last year so thought it was easiest to ask on here.

Who are you assured with?
No requirement with my beef assurance for bought in stock to be FA. 90 days on my holding and it becomes FA.

I've had some that miraculously became farm assured after 90 minutes on a wagon.

Assuming it's QMS, there is no problem buying her in, but she won't become farm assured. Her calves born on your farm will be.

I'm not aware of any changes to this sort of thing, but I haven't waded through the new standards book yet.

Does the same apply to stores for growing on? Or will they be assured after 90 days?

As far as I'm aware, yes. The 90 day rule is an English thing. Although we don't buy anything in, so I've never looked at the rules too closely.
