Poor man's hot dog..... :ROFLMAO:

Probably your compensation for compulsory voting ;)
You only really claim to have true democracy if the whole population is involved

I think in the US it’s only about 37% turnout ?

what’s the figure for UK ? Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t your elections held during the week, rather than weekends like ours ? I always thought that was designed to make it harder for the “working class” to vote . . .

It's usually around 70% here (67.3 in 2019). Some seats get as little as 50%, often labour strongholds, while there are usually quite a few around the 90% mark.

Voting's always on a Thursday and it's not a public holiday.

our elections, local council, state or federal government, have always been on a Saturday, the original idea was it allowed everyone ( especially “working” people ) an opportunity to vote through the day ( back when no one worked on saturdays). Modern society is a bit different, but the principal still applies . . .
Besides, it IS compulsory, so voting is meant to be as easy as possible

A day when all those who don't work for themselves or in the service economy get to play....

when I was self employed ( most of my working life ), I never worked on a public holiday unless I was planting or harvesting. EVERYTHING else can wait. Me time / family time is more important than too many people give it credit for

the WORST thing now about having a full time job is the lack of freedom to take a day / few days / a week or 2 off work to go & do my own thing. That’s what I loved about farming full time. . .
Working for myself there was no limit to how much time off I could take. Now, I’m limited to only 4 weeks a year & most of that gets spent at harvest or planting, rather than riding motorcycles across vast deserts, which is what I’d much rather be doing . . . 😢

Not sure of the exact times but polling booths are open something like 7am to 10pm, plenty of chance to vote if you want to.
Not sure I agree with compulsory voting, especially as you would be forced to vote for someone you thought was shite. Generally the UK system is all about voting for the least shite option.

If we had compulsory voting I would definitely start a campaign for all voting slips to include a "None of the above" option.
