Attaching trailer air brakes

Fit handles on the air lines. It makes it slightly less of a pain in the arse job.

They're not something I use if I'm swapping trailer's a lot then I'd just fire the oil on .

Also a pain having to wait for air to build up before moving
So do you have to let the air out to use on oil?
I will probably want to use this trailer more on a tractor without air brakes anyway.
I do have another trailer with air braking has it for about 12 years but that never had the air brake pipes with it so just use it on oil

Yeah because the air will hold the brakes on when parked up so you need to empty the tanks to use oil

Just been having a look at my trailers, the newish one I’ve just bought has a button which says push to shunt, presumably that dumps the air?


The older one which I’ve owned since 2009 and never used in air just has a lever valve on the bottom of the tank, just turned it and there was a whoosh of air so now I’m really confused, how have I been pulling that around without issues for the last 13 years if they won’t move with air in the tank

It will move with a little air in the tank, i suggest you try the air brakes, but when you go back to oil remember to press harder when approaching the junction!

You’re taking the pish, I try my best not to use the brakes they’re that good, if they’re any “better “ on air i really don’t want to plug them in.


I probably ought to add to that that there’s a big difference between when towing with a massey and a case, the Masseys seem to apply much more pressure to the trailer brakes

No, on mine you only have to get the brake lights on to get gentle slowing of the trailer, hyd ones wont do that, its all much more car like in control

Wouldn’t have a clue

They have two pipes to connect them
Look at the axles if there's load sensing there could be a bar between them with a wire rope going to a valve to adjust how aggressive the brakes are depending upon load this helps a lot!!!

The air will likely be more progressive anyway
