Electricity tariffs/Prices

I've taken a three year just recently, beginning to think maybe a two would have been more sense but 1 year not really worth doing. Still 30p a unit though

Anglian farmers (EDF) just been priced at Standing charge £2.12 KWh 35.72.
They have just sent this for a 1/04/22 start date.
Are there better deals ?

That standing charge looks horrific.
From what folks are saying, electricity prices are twice as much as their last contract. We're up for renewal in August and I'm not looking forward to it.
Usually go through Love Energy (broker) but even their prices used to change daily.

We're similar here, but have 17 months left on contract.
We've used Love Energy in the past, the last time we used them they quoted EDF as the cheapest, but I went direct to EDF and got it cheaper

Wow, is that a standing charge of £2.12/ day
Yes. Hearing some horrible ones, a pig farmer I know has one at 45k for the year.
There needs to be some investigation into standing charges.
Octopus looks to be very similar, sometimes wonder what brokers do for there money when 2 minutes on the internet brings a very similar price.
AF also renegotiated in September and suggested a 6 month contract!!

We are currently in year 3 of a 4 year deal with opus energy. Have had a letter recently saying rate will increase on 1/6/22. Can they legally do this ? Has anyone stopped them doing this. New rate would still be alot less than a new contract price .!!

I think you will find all contracts have something written in the small print.
Basically, you would be free to leave without penalty but they know they have got you over a barrel, as like you say, they are still cheaper than going elsewhere.
Pity that farmers cant do the same with grain conracts if we find our cost of production has increased considerably to what we forward sold grain at. !

I was gonna get round to posting about my experience on here eventually but you‘ve spurred me on. We had the exact same letter from Opus, halfway through a 3 year contract. I rang them and gave it both barrels to some poor sod that was very apologetic but said he’d put a complaint in but not to expect owt within 2 months.

I was so effing mad I wrote to the Managing Director of Opus having looked around for the CEO’s name, but there are quite a few people at the top of Drax/Opus. I picked the most likely person in my view. I put it in extremely forceful language that I had never in 35 years of buying fixed price electricity had an electricity company try it on mid contract. I made it clear that I wasn’t stupid and that they had bought 3 years of electricity upon us signing with them and various other bones of possible contention.

Anyway, a chap (not the MD) phoned me back straight away under orders from the MD and said they would reinstate the original prices and hoped we could continue to do business in future. Gave him an earful as well but thanked him for his assistance on this occasion.

They depend on people rolling over.
