There is a scheme for free blood tests for enzo and toxo you just have to pay vet time to take the blood from a proportion of the flock, we done it years ago and are going to do it again next week1. Enzovax, Toxovax. Don't use either here but, although we have decent scanning percentages we never seem to get the 'dizzy heights' that some report on here, so, just wonder if we have something 'in the background' that could be improved by vaccinating
Would need to cost it out to see how many more lambs we'd need.

2. Bravoxin. Already using it on the ewes but our lamb losses when we've tried not vaccinating have been mainly pasturella so stuck with ovivac/heptavac. Just wish another manufacturer would come up with something in competition.
I see Enzovac & Toxovax as insurance against an outbreak. Having been through it previously, and seen the effects of storms elsewhere, I have no wish to chance it.
I use Bravoxin on the ewes and have little faith in the 'P' element of the expensive stuff after a couple of outbreaks in vaccinated sheep (identified as a strain not covered
). However, I always seem to lose a few lambs with pasteurella around late June, which seems to stop if I jag the lambs with Ovivac P even once. I have bought enough Ovivac to do this year's lambs (before the April 1st price hike) once, but their follow up will Bravoxin to make sure clostridials are covered. With the increased vacc price, I doubt they'll get Ovivac next year though, as losing a few lambs will cost less!

Pretty much the same here, only not so efficient as you at Lowerye Towers.
Availability of Ovivac and Heptavac has been sporadic, to say the least, so the vaccination programme this year is pretty much 'mix and match'.

To give my vets there due, they got loads in at the end of March and rang round a few bigger flocks.

Just bought 500ml bottles of ovivac p for £136
Without having a big breed change clik, ovivac, both abortion vaccines, white drenches and some cydectin are where it’s at. Don’t bolus maybe should to get scan up a bit. Must say I am getting fed up of continental sheep. Might go a bit more back to mule, no good just breeding sheep for a high cull value.
50p might not be the difference between success and failure but if you're making a profit why not make 50p more?This is going to offend someone in a serious way I’m sure.
See a lot of stuff about cost cutting which I am all in favour of!
However someone the marginal costs that folk obsess over ...... it sort of makes me think their business must be pretty much f*cked. If a 50p a year saving per ewe is the difference between success and failure.

But I’ve seen plenty of folk make life real hard for the sake of 50p.
10 £130 ewe lambs are 2600 50ps
etc
If you're only getting 10 good ewe lambs from 2600 ewes then you need some better sheep

You could say the same of the increased popularity of shedders of course. Folk producing fewer lambs, of lower value, because the wool comes to 50p less than the cost of shearing (temporarily hopefully)?

You obviously thought different to that to invest in trying these awful sheep.
Not sure why it need be fewer lambs.
Even need not be lower value (than what?).
And there's a whole lot more cost than the shearing to wool.
Just gotta iron out their other bad points...
