Anyone use or even heard of Border Software??

As a small very low input farmer I've managed perfectly well with paper cash sheets for thirty years, having previously used Total Farm Business from Genus (now Promar) as I worked for them. I'm starting to think a quarterly envelope to the accountant might be the cheapest and most efficient way of doing things. They've quoted me £216 + vat pa for Sage, I've then got to do the job and learn how to use it.

I like to do everything myself, but I use contractors when i need their expertise/kit. Same principle really.

We are now looking into which way to go on this, thinking Xero, watching their video if your turnover is under 85k (ours is) you can still submit through their portal. This has thrown me now, not sure what to do!

We are all the same.
Right trap and con and license to print money for OTHERS.
Easier if we drop vat but all self assessments heading this way soon too.
Does our head in as so small and simple accounts.

Correct. Spending time and money not being productive.

A mechanic told me he was cutting down on paperwork.

He gets customers to pay direct for parts and does more jobs for cash!!

Probably not as obviously a small specialist concern.

I’m pretty sure the Border Software program is MTD compliant (I’d be staggered if it wasn’t), but it’s not an ‘accounts’ program. It’s a good management program for beef and sheep farms, with the accounts bit bolted on. I wouldn’t consider it as solely an accounts program.

Avoid Sage like the plague imo. Have a free demo of Xero and/or QuickBooks and see which you prefer. They both do cut price versions if your accounts are very simple.

As for paying your accountant to do it, that’s not cheap either. The benefit of doing your own book keeping is that you always know exactly how things are looking.

Yes. I use their FarmIT for livestock and find it excellant. I dont use the sheep nor accounts side of the software though. It is MTD compliant tho.

I've gone with "My tax digital" free bridging software. Have done one Return so far with aid of online tutorial video.
My accounts are on excel 2010 with no accountant. I am just hoping its going to get easier and quicker each month.
