As daft is you think it maybe, a bit of bale tape round is better than it is now, and reduces the risk.Nothing wrong wth that cover that a bit of bale tape won’t solve!Joking aside in a perfect world you would replace the guard. Unfortunately because of time and pressure and financial reasons there are loads of unprotected shafts much worse than that working in Europe right now. It’s something u mean to fix on a wet day! This is one of the reasons why farming is such a dangerous business.
It looks like whoever put the machine on, forgot to put the pto rest support in right place afterwards.

Yes it should be replaced but if you are anywhere near a pto shaft when its on and get dragged into it, its your own fault.
There is alot of things that are more dangerous without guards on but no-one ever seems bothered about them.

There was a guy near here a good while a go could have answered your fukwit question…..
But when they found him wrapped around the shaft….still turning he was no longer alive.

A teenager near me lost his arm in farm machinery when I was only a few years older than him. He now has a hook on his elbow. Not exactly a PTO shaft but unprotected equipment.
You have a duty of care to uphold, I always look at things in a risk versus reward when doing jobs at work. Look at this one...risk a life vs save a low monetary sum... you would be fukwit not to replace damaged safety equipment.

Plenty seem to do it with the engine running, and rely on a few cheap solenoids and semi worn clutch to keep them safe. Some of them make it worse still by having dog/ child/ wife still in the cab.
