Won't this just push up the price of wholesale gas? Instead of people cutting back they will just use what they couldn't afford? Increasing demand on a tight market

Does the top 50% of earners really need help?

How very ungrateful haha.
Got nothing to do with Sue Gray's report, oh no.
He's basically put back in place the 20 quid a week uplift in UC that he gave those struggling in March 2020 - he's been clever this time though, it's one off payments, so he can't be criticised for the help being withdrawn.

He's also dealt with a political faux pas that was the energy loan repayable over 5 years, that would have dogged him and the Tories until 2026. Was amazed did that in first place.

If you are a child of the 70’s you will remember the ‘Save it’ campaigns. I’m not sure if they came about because of the Miners strike or the Arab Israeli war. Surely the issue here has to be use less energy not the same.

Wasn't about then but if supply and demand dictate prices then this may cause demand to increase from people who would not have been able to afford it.

I'm not saying something shouldn't be done just that it may not work

But agree, either supply has to increase or demand fall

By putting on a jumper and wearing a head torch? :ROFLMAO:
I deleted that because it seemed a bit mean but i do believe that you can only use what you can afford. Turn down your central heating turn off your unused appliances and put a jumper on. If the Government subsides the Energy suppliers then prices won’t come down. Once upon a time Conservatives believed in market forces now they are Labour lite.

Another needless government intervention to make it look like they’re doing something.

The people at the bottom and the top get the breaks whilst the people in the middle pay for it all.

Gov should have sent the lowest earners food vouchers, i can see the £650 being pee'd up the wall
Nah.
Should have taken the green levies and vat off of energy bills and taken the dosh from the big energy and fossil fuel companies in exchange for stakes in the green energy market.
I mean. They are energy suppliers. They ain't going to sit and watch a load of Johnny come latelys steal their market. This green crap will never work untill they have control of it anyways.
We as farmers know that giving subsidy to people only causes their suppliers to increase their prices to get it.
All highly inflationary.
