That is a bit unfair, just a bit... it's an irony that the German politicians I generally think the least of, as being priggish and dogmatic, have come out in spades in this matter. of course I mean their Greens. It seems to me somewhat analogous to Churchill and the left of the Labour party in WW2, meaning they see the reality of the threat posed by a dictator.
I really am starting to wonder about Scholz in this matter- and Macron too. I write again, this is a time in which those who want a more integrated and 'united' EU - self-professedly Germany and France - really could show the Eastern member-states that they mean it. No skin off my nose, but for any EUrophiles it must stand out as a huge opportunity lost, even though resulting from the suffering of Ukraine.
Clever fellow, speaks rationally without the level of dogma we hear from Putin, he's certainly a plausible candidate. No idea if he'd be better or worse than Putin though...Meet the next President of Russia. Allegedly.

I fear he would not get the job unless he was going to maintain the status quo. Obviously the Russians as it would prevent any kind of strategic landing operation in the port.
They even had the Audacity to stay near the city in their landing boats after mining the port.
The Russians by this time were afraid that a third power or powers would intervene. By blockading the port they have increased the likelihood that this will eventually happen. Their objective, I suggest is to block grain exports , cause a worldwide grain shortage and put pressure on the west to lift sanctions but I think this will only escalate the conflict. They are digging an ever deeper hole and their strategy will not succeed.

...i was just pondering....lokking at news...way things are going......russia gone back to old red army attritional grind.....making progress in east.....destroy ukranian army and country falls.....they can't get wheat out and harvest looming.....finland cut off gas/leccyjust wondering what others thought

I think the 100 troops per day is a mis-speak, I've heard that was their worst day, not per day. Either way, it never should have been said.
