Simple it will become a red tractor requirement. If you don't tick the box you will exit the industry

It will become part of the Environmental Permit that you have to have to produce milk, just like the pig and poultry guys
They will of course be covering all sewage works and stopping discharges. :ROFLMAO:

difference is the poultry boys don’t have acres of lagoons to cover some of which would be physically impossible to actually do!
In a way our sector is now a victim of its own under regulation (and things been build on a shoestring budget due to poor returns). The big uncover-able lagoons should probably of not been built in the first place and will probably end up being obsolete. As @som farmer suggests the space could be sold for builders waste etc and reinvest the fund in a compliant store.

One of our lagoons is built around existing hedge lines, so a fairly odd shape. All done and signed off by EA. I can't see it being able to be covered. We use a floating straw cover at present. If that won't suffice in the future then they better relax planning rules on pushing the pit around and making it square

Fingers crossed, unfortunately some of the stuff that’s been built/signed off will be deemed unfit for purpose as we move forward. Of course none of this will be a massive problem if returns allow for investment in it, as we’ve seen on too many occasions that’s a considerable “if”.

What is for certain is that as the planet warms none of this is going to go away. As said earlier I think it will very much be comply or get out.

If its deemed unfit, I think on Tuesday last week the government signed off a new law relaxing planning on ag sheds to convert into housing even in AONB and other special areas. Its an easy decision especially if cows are trading strong.
May have to keep 5 cows tho, as milk might run short after a while.
Going to relax rules on solar parks too in the wake of rising energy costs. £1000 acre index linked or some jumped up pr*ck telling you to show him_her where your rat bait points are and when will you be covering your lagoon. Talk about walking blindly into an issue.

I honestly think they will be fighting to keep farmers farming before too long, can’t see big farm killer policy’s like major slurry lagoon regulation change actually being enforced.
If 40% of farmers do invest 50%of their own money to meet future regulations there will be a lot of internal pressure to either force those that haven't to also upgrade or get out.

said before, interesting times ahead. We looked at windmills, not a chance, flight line from RNAS Yeovilton. The main reason, the outer edge of the turbine blades, turn at a different speed to the centre, and as they are large, it buggers up the radar system, as with all airports.
Conversion of buildings to houses, solar parks etc, the locals will love us, especially if you can apply, under permitted development, so they can't really interfere !
And you are so right, these could provide alternative income, and no pri#ks telling you what to do, swap them for very hostile, ( and envious ) locals.
As for filling existing lagoon, not compliant, with b waste, quite a profitable thing, the difference between that, and a new lagoon, isn't as great as you would think.
The other point l picked up, all lagoons/storage, have to be compliant by 2030

So anything you change on the farm has to be sorted by your landlord
l did say, at the moment. In any case, l/lord would have to compensate at full value, they didn't read the FBT properly, and a few nice, unusual clauses in there. My solicitor drew the agreement up, due to family difficulties, so good for me, not so good for l/lords

internal pressure from whom? A government of a nation of people who won’t be able to afford toilet roll to wipe their arse if things carry on as they are?
My store and separation with 6 months storage and tension cover ready will all be finished by August due to environmental agency pressure under framework for water
I will be arguing all farmers have to meet the standards I've been expected to meet.

Still just feeling positive I made the decision to go without grant even though 50% is the number being offered.
