Puncture prevention gunk in a road vehicle

Does any one use puncture prevention sealant in their cars or SUV s . Ie road based vehicles rather than purely farm vehicles
Does it work ? "Air seal" product type stuff .?

I put the green OKO in the wife's v40 that had a persistent slow puncture (flat in 48ish hrs). Did the job. I believe they do a road grade version.

That’s exactly why I believe it’s not approved for road use, if it all sits in one area will put wheel badly out of balance.

nah, that’s sh!t
It stays liquid so just rolls around the tyre when goung slow, centrifugal force just pushes it all equally to the outside when going faster

I’ve put double the amount recommended in the front tyre of dirt bikes & noticed no problems ( front tyres on bikes really “hop” if out of balance ) up to max speeds of 150km/h

I’ve regularly run it in road going vehicles & never noticed any effect through the steering wheel.

as far as I know ( but I could be wrong ), I haven’t seen anywhere here where it isn’t approved for road use. Certainly haven’t read that on any bottles of the stuff

I use Air Seal in our cars as well as various farm vehicles.
They recommend using less in cars than a similar sized purely off road tyre.
If our XC90 hasn’t been moved for a few weeks I sometimes notice the wheels being slightly out of balance for a couple of miles until the liquid has spread around the tyre.
I’ve even used it in tubeless mountain bike tyres - I tested it by puncturing an old bike tyre with a Phillips screwdriver and it sealed it.
So I would say it’s good stuff.
I’ve not noticed any problems with the tpm valves yet.

I have used Oko a lot in bikes and farm kit over the years. I have seen it go into a solid lump once and strip the paint off the wheel!

On road bikes, I have used a higher speed product (name escapes me) but it's issue is that once in, the tubeless tyre cannot be plugged which is/can be, a better solution. I have seen issues with Honda alloy wheels twice, and a smidge of sealant stops any ultra slow leakage. I believe the alloy can become a little bit porous over time.

Was trundling down near Nantes a few years back and my mate picked up a mahoosive nail. We drove to a local tyre shop who would not look at it! Tubeless tyre, so II went and bought a tubeless plug kit from a Halfords lookalike, cleaned the hole in a quite warm tyre and put in the plug with the supplied glue/adhesive compound. Waited 5 mins and then pushed the bike to the airline, inflated to 30psi, then we rode off down to N Spain.

He spent a week running around off road in the mountains, then we rode back, he went on up to Preston. Tyre never lost any pressure. He finally changed the tyre2-3 months later, still no loss....

I still believe that a warm tyre really aided the repair that day.

Ok, I might have posted elsewhere about the state of the tyres on my ute.
They’ve been like this for a while . . .
One let go today.
Youve seen pics of the sort of roads I drive on.
I’ve never had a flat with these tyres.
They have obviously reached the end of their life.
You can see the sealant in the tyre
I think they’ve done alright 👍

I use the rubber plugs in all types of tubeless tyres big and small. They work well and last the life of the tyre. Think they not approved for road use but can’t see why not and who would know

As long as the actual carcass of the tyre isn’t damaged / the wires bruised or the sidewalls damaged, plugs are a perfectly acceptable repair in a tyre tread. 👍

I agree about how well they work but would be very wary of giving insurance companies a get out clause in the event of an accident even if the plugs weren't the cause.
