Boris Johnson unveils ‘grow for Britain’ plan

I'd like you to elaborate why you think the NFU and the NSA are responsible for the Government's announcements?

Without defending the tone of the post you refer to:
The NFU President was the only person to sit on both of Mr Dimbleby's advisory panels.
His report called for less livestock and for methane masks to be fitted to those we don't get rid of.
His report totally ignored the food chain - the place where all of the environmental damage is caused - and laid the blame squarely with the primary producer.
All of this warmly welcomed by the NFU President.
The NFU are, to answer your question, responsible for Government announcements on farming being to blame, because the NFU advised the Government that it is thus.

Not a hypocrite.
You are a businessman, and it sounds like a conscientious one at that.
That's one of the troubles with farming, we are being screamed at to do conflicting things, to achieve opposite outcomes, by the same people.

We need to be more productive and have less environmental impact.
We must not rely on subsidy, have the highest standards in the world but not increase the cost of food.
We want open country to walk in and enjoy the view, with millions more trees planted.
We like small farms with personal attachments but all our financial decisions discriminate against them in favour of industrial type premises.

See above last 4 lines, this is why Farmers are so Frustrated. There is no joined up thinking, if the old subsidy system could be transfered to a new one and called a different name you would be on to a winner. The money we got paid did not end up in our pockets but in the local economy. It just kept the wheels turning. Your Boss Mr Eustice should understand this, after all he is a farmers son. At the moment Farmers are scratching there heads and looking at the figures which do not add up while the supermarkets are screwing us for every penny they can get.

Apparently people are even turning their nose up at then when given them for free at food banks.

They claim they can’t afford the energy bill to cook them…! 🙄

A friend of mine donates potatoes to a food bank and the guy that collects them often tells him that he doesn't want too many because there's a limited number of people who will take them!!!!!!

I was also told the story that a pallet of baked beans was rejected by a food bank because the lids didn't have ring pulls!!!

I think that you are naïve to think that just because an NFU representative talks to Government or sits on a committee that everything they ask for is suddenly Govt policy. I think in general the Dimbleby report was welcomed by Minette, but not every detail. Dimbleby was on TV this morning complaining there was much in his report being ignored by HM Govt.
Not sure I understand your last sentence, but the NFU is NOT responsible for Govt announcements, especially a Prime Minister hanging on by his fingertips.
If you think that going to Govt demanding this and demanding that is going to get results then you need to have a go yourself. Politics is the art of the possible. Often the result of a good deal, or negotiation, is when nobody is happy.

If you honestly believe that ALL of the environmental damage is being done by the food chain, and none by the primary producer, than you need to take your head out of the sand. We all know there is environmental damage being done almost everywhere, and by almost everybody, in the food chain and every other chain you might think of.

That’s certainly chiming with me. Spent much of last week in the office churning through paperwork for a forthcoming RT inspection. Lots of new paperwork and policies required, some of which directly cost me money (eg in extra vet input). Who exactly is demanding that UK farmers have the highest standards in the world? I doubt it’s your average punter who wouldn’t recognise a Red Tractor logo, doesn‘t know what it means and certainly wouldn’t pay a premium for it in this time of rising costs.

I tell you what; I know that most employed folks will do bits and bobs outside of their paid hours, but if you gave your average (eg) train-driver an extra week of unpaid work a year the unions would be going wild!

We must be effing mad🙁

TBF to Minette she has just spoken well ..... makling the point that the UK grows grass in our temperate climate and that grass sequesters 70% carbon as opposed to 30% from trees.

Won't appease the nutters who I suspect are on next and will have the final word if Whine is true to form
Well I'm pleased she's mention these stats,it's something that anyone with an iota of general knowledge and common sense already knew. What's frightening is all these so called academics/environmentalists don't seem to grasp it,perhaps politics has an influence on them rather than facts.

Minette doing the supermarket/governments job for them again….🙄

Here she goes again, keeping our produce nice and cheap for the supermarkets, and presumably plentiful so we have to keep buying lots of inputs from her other corporate members.

"Vital that social policies are in place for access to high quality food". Soon there won't be an industry as such, we will just be the production arm of defra's food bank system.
