Boris Johnson unveils ‘grow for Britain’ plan

I think that you are naïve to think that just because an NFU representative talks to Government or sits on a committee that everything they ask for is suddenly Govt policy. I think in general the Dimbleby report was welcomed by Minette, but not every detail. Dimbleby was on TV this morning complaining there was much in his report being ignored by HM Govt.
Not sure I understand your last sentence, but the NFU is NOT responsible for Govt announcements, especially a Prime Minister hanging on by his fingertips.

Just to keep this to cows for simplicity sake:
The Dimbleby report to Government calls for less cows because they cause climate change. The NFU call for less cows because they cause climate change. The Dimbleby report to Government says we need to mess with our cows diets and fit them with methane masks. The NFU say the same.
In what way is the NFU not responsible for Government policy that adversely affects cattle farmers ?

If you think that going to Govt demanding this and demanding that is going to get results then you need to have a go yourself. Politics is the art of the possible.

100% . So how come the NFU, time after time, pursue policies that are either doomed to failure or would work against farmers should they be enacted ? Because it is bloody difficult to come up with policies that will both help farmers and not p!ss off the cartel, that's why.

If you honestly believe that ALL of the environmental damage is being done by the food chain, and none by the primary producer, than you need to take your head out of the sand. We all know there is environmental damage being done almost everywhere, and by almost everybody, in the food chain and every other chain you might think of.

Back to Bob Crow. Did he apologize for the environmental impact of building a tube line ?
It is - supposedly - the job of the NFU to represent primary producers. They don't. They continually apologize. Why ? Because the cartel have told them to admit guilt and promise to do better. So that they can put a sticker on the produce saying 'trying harder'. Greenwash.

TBF to Minette she has just spoken well ..... makling the point that the UK grows grass in our temperate climate and that grass sequesters 70% carbon as opposed to 30% from trees.

Won't appease the nutters who I suspect are on next and will have the final word if Whine is true to form

What did she propose we do with all of that grass once we have met her objective of less cows on less livestock farms ?

Small and regional abattoirs. Entirely possible.
Can you post the NFU policy statement on this issue ? Or share the contact details of the NFU staff member working on this ?
Because I have already on this thread shared the NFU statement that less, bigger, abattoirs is better.

(As for 'having a go myself'. I do. If I had a go any more to my NFU rep on this stuff he would start to hate me) .

Perhaps that is the problem Minette has with the powers that be. If you winge too much, or ask for too much they just end up ignoring you.

So you will take his place at the next AGM and my successor will see you at Council then?

You said whinge, not me. Everything I say - everything - when I 'have a go' is positive. That is to say, I don't just complain about current policy, I suggest what our policy should be. Anyone got a problem with that ?

Not a hypocrite.
You are a businessman, and it sounds like a conscientious one at that.
That's one of the troubles with farming, we are being screamed at to do conflicting things, to achieve opposite outcomes, by the same people.

We need to be more productive and have less environmental impact.
We must not rely on subsidy, have the highest standards in the world but not increase the cost of food.
We want open country to walk in and enjoy the view, with millions more trees planted.
We like small farms with personal attachments but all our financial decisions discriminate against them in favour of industrial type premises.
It’s not just farming.

14 months later:

Democracy is going to die if we can’t get people willing to do the job that can see past tomorrow and have at least a basic grasp of economics.

What did she propose we do with all of that grass once we have met her objective of less cows on less livestock farms ?

She said that we are uniquely placed to produce red meat due to our temperate climate

Im guessing that maybe the NFU are rowing back too now government have alter course to more production based farming …. But who knows?

Anything specific jump out?
They seem to think we are all going to earn a living from food production, including the 10 000 immigrant workers prepared to do what British ones don't.

A bit light on the detail but reading between the lines, they accept the era of cheap food is over.

One positive, they are going to teach children about food and stop people getting fat

It's a long old document and I only skimmed through it.
