Record harvest?

I was thinking that too but also worried about options for brome control which put me off that.
I know I keep mentioning it on threads. But me and dad were talking about the seed control unit this morning and whether it would allow us to replace at least some spring barley with more winter barley. Brome and a lot of BG will still be in the ear at harvest with winter barley.
spring barley is fairly unreliable especially with dry springs, spring oats are fine though.

Bit disappointed with my S Oats this year, in a lovely field and just haven’t got away after initially establishing well. Foot high and starting to come into ear 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you have brome winter barley will make it worse.

Now this years seems especially bad for brome.

Personally I think you may as well consider Skyfall in January than Winter Barley.

Well that's suprised me. Maybe lack of sun? It's certainly not felt warm.
These meteorological recordings need to be made where the local environment has been unchanged for the last few hundred years - they're bloody meaningless when you add data in from London, Heathrow, Waddington etc. It's like "rising sea level" records being taken from a silted up dock!

Yes I know, but we have a seed destructor being installed on combine which may change the game when it comes to brome.

How does a seed destructor work?
It’s knocks the germination of weed seeds in the chaff. It’s part of a trial on different weeds we’re doing with niab. It looks a promising concept.
There’s quite a lot of questions about this on various threads so I may start a seperate thread for it so I don’t need to repeat myself too often!

The idea of the chaff “cart”seems a good idea but may not work in practice when harvesting high yields, as cart would need to be unloaded so regularly, thereby reducing combine performance.
