Disastrous scanning what would you do?

I thats it

I'd cull them. If you've not got enough heifers to replace then maybe buy a few in that fit the pattern.

That's assuming your block calving, and we're not talking huge percentages empty.

Sorry to hear of this. 'What to do next' really depends on the root of the problem and your views on buying in, tightness of block etc.

Served in the autumn, (in theory) good heat detection, so presumably not seen bulling every time and only just scanned empty? Sounds like embryo loss/abortion rather than an actual conception problem. If it is, then if something like neospora would definitely mean a trip to the abattoir in my book.

Honestly no clue we’re still going atm. It’s depressing. No rhyme or reason. Good tidy cows just not pd+. Ai company coming up once we finish for a chat.
If it makes you feel any better, we had a very poor scan outcome, no idea why cows are under little pressure and I have confidence in ai firm and me picking, don't beat yourself up, I have a bull to cover again and we moving to late spring calving rather than autumn, fed up with calving against the weather.

We calve April, May and June. First year at it and we are only small but gone well so far, 2 left to calve now, milking 39. Helped one cow who had twins, only had to rearrange feet and use ropes. All calved outside, no milk fever at all. Dry cows block grazed on grass. Transition cows on haylage/hay with mag in water trough. Using bulls for service, we are flying herd but will let you know how it goes, tbh i am a bit nervous as in Devon can dry out around July/August.

Conception rates were below normal last year and then middle two weeks of November shot 20% of herd cause of a pneumonia like virus that vets couldn’t get on top of,it came in overnight and disappeared overnight so we’ve bought in a bunch of springers but the virus has been hard on production and fertility until mid February now things are looking better. So for what it’s worth keep numbers up and more important keep your chin up.
