I shudder to think how many jobs have been created to set up SFI and ELMS schemes.I shudder when you consider the extra computer software costs along with huge numbers of staff and layers of bureaucracy required .All this for a ill conceived system that became more and more complex as the realisation sank in that major changes were needed.I shudder at the amount of money wasted.
We were sold the story that all the communication with farming groups was to help get it right,I think the truth is they were making it up on the hoof and constantly needed to to change things as the reality that it was unworkable became apparent.
Oh how I long for a simple system without all the bureaucracy .Am I expecting too much ?

Not in the interests of the people making the rules to make it simple.

All that cost and work, and now a massive last minute U turn by slashing Landscape Recovery budget to £50million from (was it) £800 million.

Have they decided what the money clawed back from LR is going to be spent on? Higher payment rates on SFI, CSS revenue or capital payments, or more SFI options / layers, or other schemes?

When I voted for Brexit I voted “down with this sort of thing.”
I didn’t expect this kind of bureaucracy to increase tenfold. I’m still waiting for the bonfire of red tape we were promised but it never happens. DEFRA in particular just keep adding to it with ever more complex schemes for less and less return.
I thought that after Brexit, the civil service would shrink to about 10% of what it was. Seems I was wrong and we’ve been lied to …… yet again.
To be honest thats why i voted remain as over the years our bunch of idiots had shown they couldn't organise a raffle and at least we got some protection from the French and German farmers.

If you think a grade 4 senior Defra official will converse with you directly after THAT sentence in your opening paragraph that you are mad and deluded.
If you want to try for a sensible conversation then delete that sentence and converse with people like an adult and a professional.
I disagree.. Grade 4 is senior but still engages back down the ranks... i will us that thread when i next speak with Janet.. Well done you.. Passion there

Well you aren't going to fix it by staying in the EU, all the UK was doing was gold plating EU policy.

Westminster has nowhere to go any more and no one to blame.

It's up to the public to get wise and get the losers out of power.

A Grade 4 is Brigadier 1 star rank... if they do well then they deserve respect... if they fail... they are a Civil Service Squadie for life... They do the job of a Senior Colonel in the Army... hardcore!!!!

As divisive as Brexit is/was or more to the point, as divisive as some like to make it, I suspect a lot of us whichever way we voted are nearer the centre ground and as the above posts by messrs Wombat and Wazzock show, really a lot of us want the same thing even though we might have different ideas about how we go about achieving it.
