Second wheat questions

I’ve got some second wheat questions:

1. Are there any varieties that are best suited to being a second wheat?

2. Is Latitude needed when a second wheat is drilled as late as January?

3. what kind of seed rates should be used for second wheat drilled in Dec/Jan? I would normally be at around 190 kgs in early October for a first wheat.

4. Is chopped wheat straw from the previous wheat crop a help or a hindrance?

Thanks.

i only use SKYFALL with Latitude for peace of mind.
Never drilled in Jan here its v wet at that time of year anyways. nothing drilled here from mid Oct 9/10 years weather says you cant.
Straw baled n cleared from 1st wheat & stubbles just ripped up with heavy cultivator then ph/combi drilled.
Often not rolled, depends on weather.
Seed rates 200kg or slightly more only coz often home saved & just covering mesel

The rec lists have a second wheat section. Good resistance to eyespot is useful, If I was drilling wheat after beet in dec jan i'd be circa 300kgs after beet. I can't grow second wheat.

Grown some 2nd wheats here this year for the first time in a while, reminded me why we don’t, they are not good crops !

seems occasionally we all need reminding why we do or don’t do the things we do !
got some canny ones up here
one as good as the 1st wheat was last year so far anyways.
Till the land it makes all the difference
