Stock farming especially has a huge variation, it’s rare I go more than an hour doing the same job, even if it’s dosing etc a group need taking out and bringing back in so something different all the time. I used to plough for 16 hr days at a time, start 2am, at least half of the day would be in darkness then so less depressing than staring at the far hedge all day gaining 2.5m each pass. Same with drilling too mind. Spraying and Forager were ok as it was a new field/landscape every 15-30 minutes. Couldn’t go back to full time ploughing and drilling now though
When we were lads silaging was like that with the trailed foragers, was a real novelty if you got a change of field in the day,
Nowadays a full farm is done in 6 or 7 hours.

No! Last time I was up went to the rugby, had a good day out. Some of them were a bit slow getting the round in. If the Edinburgh day oot was a goer, I wouldn't want to be hearing any excuses about you being an impoverished Co Durham (?) hill farmer!
Well I am an impoverished hill farmer I will come as long as I’m not on one of my holidays!

Got a real treat for a Sunday 280 welshies to shear, mates at a stag do at highland show (that I should be on as well) so I'm on my own. If they are fit they are best shearing but if they are brokers and lean its going to be a hard day.
I used to try and shear for 4/5 hours then have a break but went off with some real shearers (50/60 hour ones) and learnt it better to go well for 2 hour runs and have 20 mins break.
