tractor snobbery

Are we entering a 2 tier payment system for staff?

Tractor under 3 years old £10 an hour, tractor over 10 years old £12?
That is old news, it doesn't matter what the pay is. Old tractors = no drivers, new tractors but the wrong colour = not easy to find drivers.

People sneered at us for running Same tractors, I never understood why because they were perfectly capable and we owned them not the bank.

I must say that alough i drive older stuff nearly everyday that belongs to us, i wouldnt go drive to some1 else if i didnt like the tractor as iv plenty to do at home and my years of being tractor mad is long gone. I help a contractor a few days each summer but he knows i like the big fendt so always offers me it as its his only chance of me goin. Mind its not a new fendt but i still like it

I'm glad to employ stockmen- they don't care what they drive as long as it starts, stops and does what it's meant to, they would drive any age or make as long as it was functional and don't care when someone else has to drive their usual tractor.
Remove the word 'usual' and that's right.

Encouraging a feeling of posession and caring for a machine rather than demanding a particular colour / model of machine is a thin line.
Operators will spend more time in the tractor than they do in their own bed over peak workload months.
Drivers think they can afford to be fussy at the moment but the actual owner of the tractor can finish up supporting the local tractor dealer rather than their own business. :(

so
is a 30 series deere which is immaculate and had new seat a very expensive top of range ,one
deemed an old heap nowadays
do people just want the new sparkly 20,21 plate with all the toys
man came for harvest job liked every thing wage accommodation etc
then looks in tractor shed
😳😳😳😳😳🙈 do i have to drive those old tractors , even commented that 65 plate r series old
and combine is 11 plate
🤷🏻‍♂️
just thoughts after chatting to on the hoof baling with his 12000hr 6310 jd , they are still a good cab and controls to spend a long day in we where chatting about it that what do you really need owt any better
Now then,
I would be interested in driving older kit, instead of these new ones.
I can start on Monday, ,(though not sure which one) be a flat rate right through £12.50 pH for first 40 hours on books, then flat rate of £12.50 pH over that paid in cash, needs to be accommodation and food, and none of this cooked chicken from butchers, yes yes aye.
Don't mind working on hours, but needs to be a late start after church on Sunday to get my sins forgiven. Oh and if its anything newer than a Renault 640 RZ the deal is off.
Ps is the yard close to the pub 🤣🤣🤣🤣

That sounds absolutely spot on. Irrigating with good kit is quite an enjoyable job, even the breakdowns, gives the brain a stretch.

our kit is all f**ked and old, I find it less than enjoyable to work with.

Sure there’ll be an expat along shortly to tell you’re expecting too much though

🫢🤣
We have 8 reels, which by and large are reliable, got lots of pipe, nearly enough that we can put them down and leave them.

Thats the problem! So long as it starts and stops they are happy, it’s the looking after and maintaining which they are usually not so good at …..
Years ago when we had pigs, the pigman complained his loader tractor was overheating. Had it into the workshop and found the radiator was full of sludge. Asked him if he knew anything about it and turned out there had been a slight leak, so had put some pig food in the radiator which stopped it and every time it started leaking again, another handful of nuts was added :banghead:
