Thanks for replies . Will look into the Transport Authorisation thing and have a think on the cpc as it's unlikely I will go more than 65 km however there is a chance of " showing animals " next year so that will involve longer journeys even if only one or two animals . Also more chance of being checked / inspected at a show by who ever .

My RT inspector said you should count the distance to the market and back when looking at the 65 km limit in case you have to bring one home.
I grunted and we moved on to the next question.
rt as usual are talking bull sh!te. Empty cattle trailer you can happily tow to the other end of the country and nothing they can do about it regardless of what bit of paper you have (or haven’t) got.

and if you bring one home it’s a different journey to taking one so again talking bull.

As for trailer cleaning records I never ever bother. If anyone in authority such as trading standards or animal health (not rt as there not an authority just a bunch of crooks) wishes to see proof of my trailer cleaning I just show them it.

Edit - just remembered we binned rt beef so if they ask I can happily tell them to sex and leave😂😂

I ignored him TBH. I was never pulled up by anybody over this though I must have submitted dozens of movement records that were probably scrutinised by somebody somewhere. I only ever transported two beast at a time though. I even made a nice central divider to stop themselves plastering one another on the trip. Worked well. Kept them evenly distributed too.
my haulier, when I use one, reckons he was once stopped by a cop who actually knew all of this stuff. Once.

I was asked about this once and responded, if one needed to come home that breached the rule if I drove, then the Wife will do it.....

Same here. I have never recorded cleaning the trailers, apart from during the F&M outbreak in 2001.
FAWL, and previously FABBL, inspectors have just wanted to see one of the trailers clean so that they can tick a box.

I was once pulled over by three police cars, a mile from home, at 2am. I had a 14’ Ifor behind me with 10 pedigree ram lambs in.

They weren’t concerned about the animals (worth considerably more than the trailer) being moved suspiciously in the middle of the night, or in seeing any paperwork whatsoever, just that I might have pinched a trailer.

As posted previously, I have never, ever, been asked to provide my paperwork. Even when I’ve had VOSA and the old bill crawling over my vehicle & trailer (twice so far), they have not been interested in seeing any documentation.

Which takes me back to the question.... WTH is this all about??

What did/does the legislation actually achieve?
Great Britain, used to work on the principle, you must not do harm, however when we joined the EEC, they worked on the principal you must obey the following rules......... over the years, and as the EEC changed to the EU gradually our governing bureaucracy have moved to adopt the idea of codifying everything into a list of rules.

So to answer the question, what does the legislation actually achieve? Nothing, except make life very slightly more onerous for everyone, except those who work for the civil service as it gives their jobs a meaning.

My head is absolutely spinning having read all the prior posts.
I’m so, so gland I’m safely ensconced in the EU, where we don’t have half that tosh to be putting up with.
