3,031 Prime Sheep comprising 1609 Spring Lambs, 208 Hoggs & 1214 Cast Ewes & Rams

Springers easing in price nationally, and with a 50% jump in numbers here on the week the trend followed suit, with the sale levelling at 304.2p/kg. Hoggs were short of numbers and saw a firmer trade on the week with Qurbani buying in full swing they averaged 257.5p

Regards some of @JHT's comments above, I was told by someone who would know yesterday that there are several big flocks in this area going in the backend. Main reason is difficulty in finding labour, apparently. And the suckler dispersals show no sign of slowing up. Where will it all end?

Heard of one this week , all the cross ewe’s going due to the labour requirements of them ....blackies staying for now 🙁

I think it you can keep going it will come good but there will be some difficult times before that.

It’s a big livestock area where we are but there’s noticeably less sheep and cattle being kept the last few years. Most have diversified into chickens, pigs, renewables or holiday let’s and are concentrating their efforts on those a bit more perhaps.

the abbatoirs will only have themselves to blame. Only so many times to can have your pants pulled down before you trip over
I think the abbatoirs get it tight they are punished with rules regs and super markets i think they are in the same boat as us really , its the big shops have been allowed to have to much clout ! Shops like the metro center would have been a better model big ceneter with lots of little shops
