Also ..... here’s another tricky one! Obviously every year there are a raft of folk who are coming to learn about regen ag for the first time..... but there are of course lots who have been to the event before and who have been doing regen ag for a fairly long time. A lot of sessions are an introduction to x, y or z. But it would be great to hear a bit more.
Had a few conversations around this topic and I think there should be a few more 'in depth' talks for those that may have heard the basics again and again

Everything is wrong about it...but it does depend on what you're after. Herbal leys are brilliant in an arable rotation, but if you've got permanent pasture, then leave well alone. But it must have animals on it or it'll fade away
but if you ask DEFRA, their answer through the ELMS /SFI is to pay more for herbal leys than PP. Thus encouraging us to plough up PP for the higher level of achievement , which is herbal leys

isn't that right @Janet Hughes Defra ??

would be good to hear presentations of systems backed up by serious financial/benchmarking numbers, not just emotions .
I know it is difficul when so many of the benefits are non-financial, but I feel people need to see businesses being successful because they have made the RegenAg move, not just doing it "because they can"

We are in the SFI pilot with all our pp and smaller arable area in the advanced soils standard.
My little grip , which I have had a go at Janet about recently, is the definition of pp which I think it is really any field of grass you can't or shouldn't grow spring barley on.
Maybe 3 soils standard are needed
one for true pp,
one for any ryegrass type award pp or TG 1
Then the arable for any cropping with the ability to swap between the last two.
getting herbs to grow does not sound very easy when you actually want them to.

The huge mistake made decades ago by DEFRA defining any grass down longer than 5 years as PP is coming back to bite them now.....

What DEFRA understand as PP is different from what farmers have always described as PP.

UK not a member of the EU now. That definition can be changed. If I recall it was necessary for purposes of compliance with the EU directive that drove CAP payments. 'Take back control' was the mantra. 'Take action now' should maybe the new mantra. Ask George.

True, but the damage is now done. DEFRA staff think that's the definition of pp.

The "grass for 5 years" definition is a typical bureaucratic one; simple to write, easy to check and wrong. It imposed a reductionist view on a complex system.

A genuine pastoral farmer will recognise genuine pp immediately but it's hard to explain to a non-farmer.

Anyone else pick up Covid at Groundswell? 😂
yes, we did, although I thought at first it was just a reaction to Monbigot.

I’d assumed that the holiness of regenerative ag would have kept the evil pestilence at bay but I’m slightly disappointed to realise that those of us who “see the light” aren’t actually immune to the issues of the common (plough)man 😂

The current guidance for those with suspected Covid and who have not been vacinated is to call the none emergency number for advice... Our local hospital is still full of unvaccinated men in their 50's who are on CPAP machines (breathing assistance).. I am sure i am being ignored by this forum user for good reason but a fellow TFF'r might like to help?
