Many full time stock farmers sticking 50k plus in the back pocket for 40hr week ? 50k used to be to dream of its normal now you and others that say things like folk cant afford meat etc need to wake up and see whats going on outside farming , farming is getting left in the dust . And remeber many house holds have two incomes if not 3-4 , look at the amount of second home owners and wanabe property developers etc the country is a wash with money .

I wonder how many farmers on here have £650 a week left for personal use?
Not many I suspect
Probably a lot of us could work it like that for a while but if we did we wouldn’t be re investing what was required into the business so it would end up a running down situation
I was still doing paperwork at 11 pm last night didn’t have an early start only around 8am yesterday fair enough but I bet mr 50k a year was finished before 11 and I pay tax too

investing fortunes inn-farming and producing good quailty food for them with nice jobs should better than the above but it isnt and the high wage e is making it worse , for the majority farmers usimg savings and living on peanuts to keep going cos its a way of lofe is the norm , imo it shouldnt be .

Nail on head ! And most of our paper work apart form vat accouts is bull sh!t anyway , i farmed when all we had was vat nowt else , lots imposed on us but no rise innproffits toncover it infact at that time prices went down .

I hope this new union has some teeth , personally im ready to fight for my future we just need some good representation and leadership which the nfu has lacked for ever .

It defo is ! It gets into your system and drives you , but we shouldnt have to pay dearly financially for it , we produce good quality safe food and should be financially very well off for doing so as many others are for doing lot less

My uncle was a train driver, started on the steam footplate went right to the top.
All round fantastic bloke took me places as a kid I would never have been the sheep pens was as far as I usually got on school holidays without him
Responsibility yes, time keeping yes work ethic not so much. No comparison between work done on a farm and what he did.

At times this thread can be informative, at times it can be entertaining, but a lot of the time it's just plain depressing

why not focus on the positives and ride out the rough times. We all know the job doesn't stack up but writing essays on the topic doesn't exactly cheer anyone up of a morning

so what if an accountant may or may not earn 50k the job is dull as dishwater and no one wants to sit next to you at a dinner party.

Its all got to be paid for from government coffers paid by businesses, I think printing money can only go on so far. i have a feeling that road end is approaching. Unless Putin is killed this war is only going to get worse , he is not going to want to lose, with the ukraines backed with even more weapons, the battle will turn nastier before it gets any better.

.....had to do an electrical safety test on one of the let houses .
Electrician rang them up Mon to make an appointment for yesterday 11 am . He turned up as arranged ...mother has gone to work ..daughter and her toddler still in bed ...shouted through window F..off till I'm up ! Your not coming in !
He now has to go back again when 'mother' is there!
What a shambles this country is in ....this girl gets all the benefits going !! ......what on earth are her 2 kids gonna be like !!

Give me Farming any day !!

True but ‘us lot’ have a duty to tell folk how it is who have a distorted view on what sort of life we lead

No , im not the right person , im to busy trying to build my business up and i need thinking time i cant fire back replies off the cuff like these guys do in interviews etc id more interested in offering support to someone who i think is/would be good at the job and i respected Id support them all the way but i know im not the right person for a front man so to speak .

Yes it is, when instarted it was sooo much better so i know their is huge potential for livestock famring to be so much better than it has become .
